GT vs. GTP

GT vs. GTP - 07/16/07 08:45 PM

Is there really a big difference in the GT and the GTP?? I know the GTP has extra horsepower 40. But is it really worth it?? The GTP might have more repairs and uses more gas and premium gas at that, so is there really a big difference and is it worth it in the long run????? Are you better off just satying with the regular 3800??? Less trouble overall???

There really are no more issues with the GTP over the GT. The only extra piece of equipment is the virtually trouble free blower. Some blowers will require a coupler replacement in it's time, nothing hard to do and can be done in your driveway with simple tools. Then there's the ever wonderful smell of roses when the GTP owners change their S/C oil.
As for is it worth it? Kinda depends on what your plans are. If you want max gains for light modding, then the GTP is the way to go. You'll end up regretting it if you get the GT.
If you have longer term modding plans, the GT may be a good starting spot for something to add a turbo charger to. There are many here who have done plenty to their 3800SE/GT's.

GTP was good for me since I wasn't planning on doing a lot of mods or sinking money into the car. It already has some extra power.

40 HP is alot... Lots of guys here spend big bucks to achieve less than that in hp gains. If you are looking for a fun, quick car, with lots of potential, lower purchase price and fuel costs, the GT is great. If you want that with 40 more horsepower, and a bit bigger gas bill go with the GTP.

I swapped in a L67, not a L36. Nuff said.

40 HP is alot. It's the difference between a lower-model Civic and a GP GT, or a V6 Mustang and the V8 Mustang (older models ..). Not to mention the GTP has ~60 more ft/lbs torque, which is what you should really be judging off of.

Other than that, I agree with the previous posts. It depends on what you want out of the car and how you drive and how much you drive, how much you want to spend, etc. But there are no differences that result in more problems with GTPs than GTs.

I love my GTP. Completely stock, it can throw me back in my seat when I pull up next to a ricer at a traffic light. lol

From the sound of the original poster I get the feeling power and modding isn't in the cards. So with that said as for reliability the the two are the same. For fuel costs yes the GTP requires premium but given the size of the tank it's roughly $2 more then regular (different locations may vary) MPG are roughly the same.

From what I gather from your original post I would buy the best car for the money as far as mileage/cost and options.

I'm betting you'll be perfectly happy with an optioned out GT as well as a GTP.

I do recommend getting one with all the bells and whistles. I don't know how many posts I've seen from SE/GT guys asking how hard is it to add "X" option that OEM.

I would decide more on the condition of the individual car and not on the designation, both cars are great but depending on what you want out of the vehicle ,if you plan on staying relativly stock and want performance look for a low mileage GTP if you are more of a do it yourself builder buy a GT cheaper and build what you want,so I'm saying deside what you want and buy it do'nt regret the model you chose later.Chico(pops)

Don't buy a red one, even if it is GT or GTP, they are the devil...I'm kidding.

Get the GTP (but not RED, or 97)

whats wrong with the red ones?
and go for the GTP if you want power stock and more power for less in mods
