audio head unit - 05/25/07 12:40 PM

does anyone out there offer a stereo head unit that will fit our cars that has...

1.red face panel lighting (to match dash lights)

2.compatible with steering wheel controls

3. has aux jack for iPod use.

I'd like to upgrade before we take off on our trip next summer so I'm looking now.

if you take out the stock head unit, you'll lose your steering wheel controls. You can buy the box that'll enable them. I have a nice blaupunkt head unit that you can change the display colors to match just about any color. Take a look at crutchfield and look for an ipod compatible head unit. If you find one you like, see if you can find it somewhere else for less. Crutchfield is usually a bit higher priced but has great customer service.

thats the head unit I have. No complaints about it. Crutchfield even threw in a lithium ion drill when I bought mine.

I think you can change the display color to 7000 different shades of color. The buttons are back lit red also.

All the clarion after vrx755vd, 765, & new 775 can do that, you'll need a pac steering wheel interface to retain controls on any aftermarket radio- swi-x is the one you need.

I have the VRX755VD in my ride now. I like it, I just wish I had NAV capabilities. I want the next step up from this unit. I alos wish it has something on the screen during music playing, like bars or graphics that go up and down with the beats of the music. The lower buttons can be changed from green or red. If you do it yourself and add the steering control, you'll be looking at around $1,000 depending on the unit, probably $1300 for something with NAV.

I went online at crutchfield and tech support showed me some items...they did mention the pac swi-x interface ($69) and an iPod adaptor ($49)...they showed me a couple of Clarion units and a couple from Blaupunkt...both were under $200... I was surprised they were that inexpensive...one Clarion was $299 but it was loaded up with Bluetooth and several other items that I dont think I'll use...I agree NAV would be nice but for that kind of cash I can add my WS6 hood!
