ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad

ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/12/09 01:48 PM

I am having a bit of a disagreement with someone about ZZP's Dyno Tune. He is telling me that I will definately POP a piston if i get it dyno tuned and drive it on the street. It will not be a track car and i will most likely be done modding the car once I get everything fixed by them tomorrow.

List reasons as to why you think ZZP's dyno tune is good or bad.

ONLY ON TOPIC discussions PLEASE!

Tell your buddy to shut up. Custom tunes are the best. Only way to optimize a custom tune is on a dyno. Off the shelf tunes and agressive mods pop pistons.

Dude, ive told you many times now....ZZP dyno is the best tune you can get, because Matt with the TTGT is doing the tuning, and he knows whats up, nothing will go wrong with your car, when they dyno they do a 55 to 90 run, so no chance are you going to pop a piston, and the tuning they are going to give you, is the best tune your car will EVER get, see you in a few hours bud!

For those who didnt know, Tim is on his way to my house to crash for the night, going to zzp tomorrow for the dyno, i will be recording!

Why dont you call ZZP and ask ? lol

By the sounds of what ZZP does, they probably dont tune JUST cars for the tracks, Im sure some though.

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/12/09 04:09 PM

Tim, whoever told you that is a moron.

Dyno tuning your car is the safest thing you can do for it, next to not modding it at all.

With a custom dyno tune EVERY aspect of your cars usage will be improved, street and strip.

You'll get better gas milage, more power, and no knock, assuming all your supporting mods add up.

The only thing bad about dyno tuning is the price and the fact that if your car wasn't done properly beforehand, it could blow up *on* the dyno. But if that's the case, it would have done the same thing the first time you took it to the track or got on it hard on the street.

Seeing as my fiance` of 4 years left me in November for the... 9th time for a guy she just met. It will be a while. When I came out I'd stay at her grandparents house.

I'm sure they'd have no problem letting me stay there, seeing as I'm still part of their family whether she's with me or not but it would be hard on me.

I'll try to make it out there sometime though. Heck, if I get some dough, I'll come stay with you while ZZP puts a shiney new transmission in my car wink

I'm slowly working on it. If I can stop being so chicken **** around attractive women, I might actually be able to land a girlfriend.

I just really don't know what I have to offer a woman yet. I would consider myself "not unattractive" but I don't know what more to go off of y'know? The guys say that I've got a great personality but I gotta figure out how to use that to woo the ladies.

The inner man is a nice guy but the outter nerd needs to find his mojo to get close enough for a woman to see. Woe is me!

Back on subject, kinda;

Thursday I'm ordering about $300 in parts for the car. Getting the HID harness to fix the flicker, repairing the SSIC with a new core and heat exchanger, and if ZZP has an option that suits the budget, a new MAF sensor.

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/12/09 11:17 PM

ya, he said "Please dont run it on the street with there dyno tune on it. do you want the list of people who have popped a piston after haveing there car dyno tuned by ZZP? A dyno tune and a street tune are two totally different tunes."
Posted by: Zalfrin

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/13/09 08:09 AM

It is possible to get it to run great on the dyno and crappy on the street, but dyno tune isn't mutually exclusive from street tune. You can use the dyno tune results as a base since your WOT should be locked in, then you just need to play with non-WOT a little bit (AE and PE, mostly).

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/13/09 01:31 PM

dyno tune went great! only 215WHP 240 Torque but I feel SOO much more low end power now its not even funny!!!

$275 for there topswapped file, 3 pulls and a half hr tuning.

Engine modifications are done, now its time to work on appearance!!
Posted by: r.s.hutchinson

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/13/09 01:41 PM

Still, 215whp and 240 ft/lbs is pretty good Tim. Considering your car never used to have that high of numbers at the crank let alone the wheels.
Posted by: '01 GT

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/13/09 01:48 PM

ya, i know lol. i was still thinking that I was going to have higher numbers than that. But, its all good though, im just happy that its running fine.

Guess what ZZP's next project is?

TWINCHARGED COBALT!!!!

That thing had 2 HUGE intercoolers! Full roll cage, car was lighter than crap, and its going to be a huge turbo to, cant remember exacly which turbo Ryan said was going on it. But that car is going to be SICK.

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/13/09 01:55 PM

not really, the file is $100, $25 to hook it up to the dyno, $30/pull and i forget the price of tuning/hr.

the car is running great. i just have an issue with my MAF sensor now. UGH! lol

idk boys, its just too many problems after another. If someone wants the car, its $5000 with rims and everything!!

Don't give up now, Timmay!

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/14/09 01:00 PM

i just bought a brand new one from autozone(the remanufactured ones). its the stock maf and its throwing codes p0101, p0102. i am giving up because its one headache after another. I cant enjoy my car with all these headaches. Im just going to sell and buy something nicer and not touch the engine. maybe do headers, exhaust, but thats about it.

no they charge $75 an hour. If anyone needs ANY prices from them, let ME know, i know all their prices.

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/14/09 02:12 PM

yeah but nick figured it out to be all one price, 100 for a file ... 25 just for sticking the car on the dyno and then 30 for each and every pull they do... idk
Posted by: BoostenGTP

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/14/09 02:13 PM

100 for the ZZP 1.0 PCM, 25 for Tims TOP SWAPPED file, 25 for hook up, and 30 a pull, he did 3 pulls. then 75 an hour for tuning, he did a half hour of tuning so thats 37.50. then 6% Tax because he paid with a credit card.
Posted by: 4drgt

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/14/09 02:32 PM

so what if someone allready had there zzp bin, they woulda still charged you for it ??
Posted by: '01 GT

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/14/09 02:36 PM

NO. they only charged me for it because i didnt have one and they will ONLY tune their file for liability purposes!

If you ALREADY have one of THEIR files you WILL NOT get charged for THEIR FILE AGAIN.
Posted by: Zalfrin

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/14/09 03:20 PM

Even before adding tax your numbers add to $277.50, boosten. With tax takes it to $294.15.

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/15/09 01:22 AM

Tim, glad to see you skewed the truth once again. Most* dyno tuning is tuning a car to run impressive numbers inside a room. You can get your track tunes but for Tim, let's all face it, he might go to the track maybe once or twice in his cars life it doesn't make sense for him to take this route. Yes it can pin down the O2s and other WOT specs but a few runs on the road can do the same thing. I live in the chicagoland area and I still am able to do the runs within certain areas so it can't be that its places to scan causeing an issue. Did any of you know Tim had a fueling issue before going to get his car dyno tuned? Tuning a car that isn't running right on the street or the dyno isn't going to get you far. All i said was to watch how lean they tune the car and Timmy here got stubborn like he always does (I think both him and Karl are related) and we both started to beat a dead horse. I'm not always right but I'm sure as hell not an idiot

Re: ZZP Dyno Tune: Good or bad - 05/15/09 02:33 AM

The only difference between the dyno and the road is that fact that you aren't going to get pegged with a ticket for winding out the gears on the dyno.

I agree with most of what you are saying and yes, there is a bigger issue at hand here.

I'll be up at Tim's tomorrow afternoon to see what I can do for him. Only going to have about 4 hours before he needs to leave for work.

I severly doubt that this is tuning related. In fact, I'd put money on it being mechnical somewhere in the line, most likely electrical or fueling related.

Props for manning up and come to defend yourself though. wink

Tim, not mentioning kinda important issues is skewing the truth.

When he said that he wasn't getting much out of the injectors and it helped a little by changeing the fuel filter it almost directly leads me to believe it's a mechanical issue with pressure
