97 DIC

I know, this one guy probably totaled his GP and is parting it out. But, the same guy I'm trying to get the HUD from is also selling a DIC. Can someone take a pic of a 00 DIC so I can compare. Also, as with the HUD, the wiring is present for a DIC on a GT that was not equipped with a DIC to begin with, right? Thanks yall.

It's hard to say... some people have found the other wiring harness for the digital DIC buried in the dash. I didn't find it in mine, and I didn't want to hassle with running wires, so I sold mine. But as far as I know, you'll just have to pull apart the dash and look.

I believe that the DIC's were the same for most model years, except it differed internally and the '97 model PCM won't read '98-'03. I also know that GTP DIC's don't have a Trac/TCS button. Other than that I think they were all the same.

Drummerboy, I believe this statement is false. I have a 2002 GTP w/ the Digital DIC, and I do have the TCS button on it, for manual control.

I believe if you have a GT, the wiring is already there for the digital DIC, if not originally equipped. The only GP that doesn't come w/t that wiring would be for the SE, I think.

I would recommend looking @ the back of the digital DIC in a pic. then @ your wiring in your car. This would insure you have the correct connections b/f you buy the part.

Hmm.. maybe the later model years had the TCS button, because I had a GTP DIC (which I ended up selling on eBay since it wasn't compatible with my car), it was out of a 1998 GTP and it had no TCS button. Sorry for any confusion, I was basing that simply on my limited knowledge of DIC's...

Ok, so most sellers on ebay will take pics of the back side of the DIC if I request it? Also, DIC wiring harness, is it normally just laying back there like the mystery ABS sensor discussed a few weeks ago, or will it be like the radio harness? I have a Hayne's Manual, and they have crappy pics.

From What I have seen, it should be just sitting right behind the dash, fairly close to your current DIC hookups. If not, then your car probably doesn't have the wiring to support the digital DIC. I don't know if there is a certain year cut off, like on the ABS/speed sensors, for this part of the harness as well. I have never dug into them too deep.

If you don't have it right in there, it is possible to wire it up, you just have to splice the wires from the old and new connectors, and run a few wires from other stuff (1 from the speedo, 2 from the manual A/C control, and 1 other wire). I have a wiring diagram for it that I found on the net, if you want it, I can email it to you.

How did this ended? it was interesting knowing if a 97 GT with no digital DIC could install one.

My 98 has the TCS switch in the DIC.

And you have the digital DIC on your car??

The 97 DIC did not come equipped with the TCS button. I looked into this when I purchased my DIC from a 2001 GTP.

I also want to know if a digital DIC from a 97 can be spliced in... I have a digital wiring diagram that I found but I wanted to know if it works for all model years from 97-03 or what?

Ya know, just a minute ago, I remember that I went to Sisbarro Pontiac in Las Cruces, and they said the 97 DICs ARE the same p/n as the 00 p/n. You ARE compatible. I apologize for trying to steer you the wrong way.

The lady who works parts, and is INCREDIBLY well versed in our parts, said these part numbers are usually found on the back of the component itself, and that is how Pontiac replaces the part. They will not order the part new for you unless you have the core. Hope all this helps.

Alex, a Digital DIC from years 98-03 won't work in our 97s. The PCM in our cars can't read the DIC and all you will get is blinking zeros. I konw this b/c i tried it i bought one on ebay for a 00 and that didn't work then i bought one for a 98 and that didn't work. For 97 GTs you can only put a Digital DIC that is from a 97 GTP. The part numbers are the same but they don;t work. There is a topic on clubgp.com that explains why. Sry is this is too late...

dont know if it will help but my 98 se had the manual trac w/out the didgital and the 03 gtp also has the manual and the digi.

Alex, its the first one. YOu can easly tell if its from a 97 GTP b/c 97GTPs are the only ones that don't have a trac on/off button.

I say go for it on the first one. For only $15, what do you have to loose?
