HELP!!! - 02/07/08 01:29 PM

ok so this morning before i went to school i had to wipe off my car from all the snow and i forgot to clean out the area by the windshield wipers...well i had to use them to clean off the window on the freeway...so when i turned them off my right one didnt go all the way down into its locked position...instead it sat on top the ice...well i turned them back on and the driverside one works perfectly fine but my passanger one only TWITCHES when i turn them on....and when there in the locked position i can move the passenger one out of the locked position all the way up to the top of the window(whereas u normally can only move it about a half inch or so) but ne ways am i correct in thinking that the motor is burnt out? if not please correct me.....

Sounds like you stripped the threads on the wiper arm. Check that first.

Remove the wiper arm..there's a nut under the plastic cover that holds them on. Remove it, then wiggle the arm off.

My wife did that with her GP doing the same thing with a fully frozen windshield, she didn't strip anything but she did loosen the wiper arm from sitting snuggly in the grooves. Do this with the hood up and the wipers off so you can re-set the wiper arm properly. I loosened the top nut re-positioned the wiper to where I was comfortable with the setting. Make sure you mate the grooves up properly and press just enough to hold it in place and tighten the nut.

If you stripped the threads, you can temporarily fix it with some tight teflon tape and a lock washer for the top (where the nut goes)
