ZZP radiator vs stock GTP for my GT

ZZP radiator vs stock GTP for my GT - 07/08/08 12:53 PM

I am looking to possibly upgrade my radiator. ZZP sells a 1 5\8" for $234 shipped. I can get a 1" stock GTP radiator from advanced auto or Autozone for about $190 or a wbodystore 1" for 197 shipped. Chime in on your experiences with a ZZP or wbody radiator please. Remember my GT is lightly modded but not in a way that will create extra heat except the PCM.

Check the parts stores for the 1 5/8ths radiators. Some one posted that the bigger one was actually cheaper then the stock replacement.

get the radiator out of a monte carlo.

Do you need a replacement? If your rad is still good I would'nt worry about upgrading until you need a replacement,I'm still running a GT rad with a FMIC blocking the rad partially and my temps. are fine even in Texas.Chico(pops)

Please expand on this. I assume a 2000-2005 Monte Carlo. I have never heard of this. Have you done it? Who has? How much hacking is involved?

I wonder why the Monte got the bigger radiator? I wonder if the air flow through the nose is horrible. I mean the GP had the L67 for years before the Monte got one. Unless that 3.4 needs the extra cooling.

I know guys who mod their supercharger montes are always complaining about how hot they get. Yes the frontal area is less than our GPs I would think. But the better aero gets better mpg, less wind noise and faster speeds(NASCAR testing). I think the 1" should do me just fine, as it is a 75% increase in area compared to the 5\8" stocker. I also notice most of my lower condenser fins are folder over, probably from the last owner using a high pressure car wash. I will straighten those first and see what happens.

Car is still getting HOT. It hits 200-205 with the AC on and will not cool down unless I get on the highway for awhile. In 40 mph stop and go traffic my temp never dropped below 200. I am getting ready to give this car to my teenage daughter, so I think I will bite the bullet and buy the Proliance 432694 radiator. It is 1.375" compared to a stock .625" radiator. It is $126.42 shipped from http://www.nextdayautoparts.com
