97 gp gt cat replacement - 09/10/07 06:29 PM

i was thinking my cat might be stopped up but dont know a way to test it i was thinking of getting a pipe to replace it with and drive it for 200 miles and see if there was a diffeence in gas mileage and performance what i was needing to know is if there is a place i can order a pipe to just bolt on in place of the cat and also if the car will run ok without the cat on it anymore

A few vendors have pipes that are bolt on. You can get one with or without a cat. Most places won't leave out a cat, so you may have to do the work yourself if you aren't replacing the cat with another. It may throw an engine code with no cat, but the sensor that detects that isn't necessarily needed for performance or gas mileage.

Vendors

Click on: ZZP, W-body, PFYC, Intense

ZZP has a greater selection I believe.

You can also go to a exhaust shop and have them weld in a new cat. You can get one for like $60-80 and then pay for labor.

Only if you have no emission testing in your city/state, it will never pass if you delete it. If you don't, then yes, just get rid of the headache

I also want to add that it is a federal offense to operate a motor vehicle on U.S. roads without a catalytic converter.

If you get caught it's a big ******* fine too!
