What to Look Out For When Buying a Used 98 GTP?? - 08/16/02 08:56 PM

Hi Folks, I kinda posted this earlier without any replies. I would like to rephrase it just in-case.
I would like to draw from the experience of the kind GTP owners on this board about what to pay special attention to when looking at used 1998 GTP. Unless there are other items worth really looking at, I am speaking of the engine.
They are selling around here (30 miles north of Atlanta) anywhere from 8.5K to 11K according to mileage and condition.

If you want help or advise in that area, come on over. Good old style no frills board with lots of friendly knowledgeable folks.

OK....I guess I'll say this.
GTP's as all cars have their faults as the miles accumulate. The weaknesses that I've seen on the board are almost unforseen in most cases.
Things I'd look for is the same I'd look for in any car.....
Burnt dipstick, tranny and engine.
Build up on the rockers, through the oil fill
Leaks
Smoke on startup
Air conditioning
Steering alignment

The list goes on..... I guess the only thing that may not get attention is the power windows...make sure they all work.
If I missed anything...maybe someone will chime in. Good luck w/ the seeking of the GTP.
