How long to aftermarket shocks last?

I've read on here that the stock struts go bad as soon as you leave the lot.

Just wondering what the durability is of the aftermarket brands. 30k? More?

Not sure. But, KYB does have a lifetime warranty.

Gah, they're awful, too. Really creaky. We have some more being shipped, but I had nothing to do with ordering them so they're OEM. :|

They last about 30... seconds after you leave the lot. Stock OEM struts are pure junk. The only purpose they serve, in my opinion, is to take up the space were a real set of struts go.

Arc, You're replacing junk with junk. I bet KYB's are even cheaper than OEM's.

If you have stock struts, look at the side of your car. Does your rear sag? Does it look like it sits lower? If you've seen a car with good struts you'll see the difference, and you'll notice a difference in the ride.
The rear should sit just a bit higher than the front.

Strut life depends on driving conditions. On average struts should last about 30k. As for the KYBs having life time warrentees that means that when they wear out you can get a new set for "free" doesn't mean they'll last the life of the car.

The $170 investment is good instead of stock.

Arcxnus, is there any way you can cancel your stock atruts order? Try to save some money. You can always sell the struts to raise money.

Well .. I'm not sure, since I have no idea where they were ordered from. It was pretty much

But that car is going with me to college, and by then the OEM struts will be more than shot, and I'll be able to afford KYBs. Selling old college books = money!

93k with original shocks. No problems here. Suspension is great on my end and I live in Potholesville.

88' van's shocks creak like crazy, though. I like it. Makes the car sound old.

If I remember some of my college semesters correctly it was about $700 for new books, I'd sell them back for about $100, and that $100 became beer money.

Yeah, I've heard that much. But still, money is money, and fortunately, I'm not a drinker. :p

I bet if you swapped them for some new struts the car would ride and behave in a much different and pleasant way then you experience now. Your just acustomed to them and think it's fine when in reality they SUCK!!!!!

BTW, I just ordered my KYBs and the deal is now up to $180. Still a good deal.

That's an awsome deal if it is. I think I paid somewhere around $260 for my set.

Yeah, they were $170 prior to 5/1/05.

Honestly, I never had a problem since day one. I don't feel any bumps at all but I do hear them.

I'm also used to driving the caravan and bumps make themselves known. The GP seems like a picnic in comparison.
