Dyno Trouble - 08/03/04 09:38 PM

I attended a dyno day at a local performance shop that reciently opened. I was first up and hooked the wide band O2 to the car. They started to run the car, however they said they couldn't do a full pull because they couldn't hold the car in 3rd, it would downshift. I sugested that they run teh car and when it shifted from second to third, then we could read the graph, after the converter spike. They said the car would reach its 125mph speed limiter before redline in 3rd gear. The only reading I got was at 3800RPM was 204hp and 243lb-ft. So, then they pulled teh car off and refunded my money. He said I can come back another time when they have moer time. Any sugestions for when I go back I've never had a car with a speed limiter. How did you guys dyno your cars?

Per intense-racing.com there isnt much of a dyno difference between 2nd and 3rd on our cars. They say there is about 1% difference between the gears..Plus if it is a new shop they may need a little time to learn there dyno. A new shop opened up here and first run they somehow entered something in incorrectly my friends SRT4 when it was stock had 69000 horse power. Damnit when he installed his stage one it droped to 262 horses. It could take them a little bit to learn it.

I've run my car on two different Mustang Dyno's. both with different hp/tq results. The first time I ran they couldn't calibrate the idle RPM setting. Anyways, with a DHP 1.0 PCM the speed limiter is removed so you can run as fast as the car is capable of. Note: I found out that my car's electronics would shift the tranny to 4th even though the shifter was in "3" once the redline was met.

I thought I read that most people dyno their GPs in second gear.

125mph speed limiter in 3rd gear? The fact that you mention a speed limiter makes me think you have a stock PCM. If that's the case, 3rd gear is limited to 108mph.

Did I not read something correctly?

Yeah stock PCM, but I wasn't suree of the 108MPH I know I've gone over that in 3rd on the open "safe" highway.
