just got my 2004 and am luvin it

but when i tried tap shift i can only get it to dwnshft---something i am missing?

Sounds very strange confused . Are you pushing forward on the paddles? That should make the car upshift.

Pulling them back towards you makes the car downshift.

yes I understand the concept but am looking for ideas as to why it does not work---I do not get +display light when starting it does show gear I am in when in manual but will not shift up or down with paddles

nor does it prompt me to shift as manual says it should how high should rpms get before it prompts me to shift?

Well, the + sign only comes on when you're at the end of the RPM range, about 5500 eek , i.e. about 38 mph in 1st gear, 80 mph in 2nd gear, etc.

When you shift into M (can do it either stopped or moving), it will tell you the gear you're in on the HUD and the DIC, and the MPH in the HUD gets real small.

Sorry, short of coming over and driving your car, I don't have a solution for the paddles not working confused .

so tell me----what is the first issues to address to achieve more HP?
This is the first car owned that I have had that actually has my undivided attention and desire to tweak it---I LOVE THIS CAR notontopic
