No Coupe?

No Coupe? - 07/14/03 12:37 PM

I looked at the new model style, and as of right now i'm still torn between iking it and not liking it.

While the outside styling is awsome, the new radio/ac setup bothers me immensely. Plus the trip computer (The little round thing above the radio) is really hard to read when the sun shines in from the back.

Also, there is NO 2 DOOR availeable. Whats up with that? I really want a coupe again, I love the larger doors...

(And getting a GTO instead might be hard with the limited number that is to be build... sigh)

Can you be more specific about the radio and AC controls? I try not to touch the radio itself, that's why they make steering wheel controls. And I find the AC settings very flexible (I mean that I can change things in small increments, not that the knobs bend!) Finally, how often does the sun come in at an angle that interferes with that display, and can't you just hold your hand up to block it? Doesn't every dashboard have a glare angle when the sun is in the wrong spot?

The 2-door vs 4-door debate will go on forever on discussion boards. Some people like 2 doors, some like 4 doors. So Pontiac compromised and produced a 4-door car that looks very much like a 2-door. I think it is a job well done.

Only about 15% of the Gen8 GPs were coupes, so PMD eliminated the extra costs of offering two body styles by going with 4 doors and coupe styling. The problem isn't PMD, it's the Gen8 buyers who didn't buy enough 2-doors! wink

If Pontiac is saving costs by eliminating the coupe, then how about a break in the price? In the car industry there is no such thing as passing the savings to the consumer.

As for the cost savings realized by dropping the 2-door - there WAS a price reduction on some of the 2004 GP models versus the 2003s. Not much, but how often does a new generation of car enter the marketplace without a notable price increase? Gads, some folks would complain if they were hung with a new rope.... wink
