'04 GTP WS6 on the way...

The dealer let me know that my car will be in town on 4/14...maybe. One of the container ships used to ship vehicles ( and almost everything else ) to Alaska has been hijacked for the war effort, so there is a chance the car may arrive one week later...but that's still okay with me. At least I have a delivery window!

Glad you have a somewhat firm date. That's pretty interesting about the container ships needed for the war effort; certainly does put things in perspective. Hopefully some resolution will come quick, but it doesn't seem likely :rolleyes:

Just wondering, did you get side air-bags on yours? That's the holdup on mine, and I'm really not sure why, whether they discovered a problem with the early models or if too many people ordered them and they're out of stock.

Cliff: I didn't order the side curtains - now I'm kind of glad I didn't. I don't know the reason for the hold, but I'd guess it is most likely due to supply problems from their manufacturer. On another board it was mentioned that the 10-spoke WS6 wheels were not available because the factory burned down, but no one seems to know for certain. Guess I'll find out when mine gets here.

Grr. 10-spokes are on back order? Splendid. That may explain why my dealer doesn't have a build date yet. Can you post a link to the board where you saw this? I'm always looking for more GP reading. Of course, a PDF version of the owners manual would be nice. But, you can't add 04GPs from the GM owner center yet.

Frank: I can't find the thread now, but I was not convinced that it was valid - the info came from a salesman. The post stated that the factory was shipping the Comp G package with the chrome 17" wheels and charging the buyer the $595 extra for that option.

Personally I think the whole idea is bogus. I was not charged any extra on my car for wheels, and nothing was mentioned about any change - if it ever happened. It was most likely just typical ignorant salesman's BS.....

I think that I can understand your frustration with regard to the wheels. It seems that there is little rhyme or reason to the shipping for these things and the supposed shortages. My WS6 arrived at the dealership about three weeks ago without any advanced warning. I ordered it with the 10 spoke wheels, not the five spoke version.

Fluid - what you read may be possible. I was sitting with the sales guys when we spec'd mine. It is possible to get a WS6 and chromed wheels. What happens is this this. The 10-spokes are default on the WS6. Then the dealer selects to chrome the wheels. This switches the wheel selection to the 5-spokes that are on the GTP and adds the $600 chroming. The WS6 I drove at my dealer had the 5s, but not chromed. He manually chose them. Sales Manager likes the 5s better.

So, it is is entirely possible to get a WS6 and change from machine-finished 10-spoke wheels to either chromed or non-chromed 5-spoke ones.

I have no question that the chrome wheels can be ordered with the WS6 package - my argument was that the 10-spoke wheels are flat not available because "the factory that makes them burned down". We know at least one 2004 guy who ordered his GTP with the chrome wheels, so of course it is possible to do so. But, did the wheel factory really burn down?. Maybe, but probably not. :rolleyes:

Oh... I get it now. I'd expect news like that to be all over the place. Makes me feel better. Gotta get my toys now before I get married. Of course, at the rate I'm going that isn't gonna be for a long while.

fpo - any idea when yours will be in? I'll try to post some pics when I get mine, but that won't be until at least the 15th. But I'm out of town ( and off-line ) from tomorrow until next Friday anyway. Houston Texas, where it's 45 degrees warmer than here!

No date yet. Checked w/ dealer on Thursday. They said they are looking every day.
