K&N Air Intake Kits - 05/03/07 12:14 AM

I have a 2004 GT2 and was thinking about putting on a K&N air intake kit (part #57-3049). It says you will see about 16.78 more horsepower. I was wondering if anyone has this upgrade, and if so, was it worth the $300?

They're over rated. You can better results elsewhere for cheaper prices.

Could you give me some ideas as to what I could do? I'm new to upgrades on vehicles.

Thanks

I disagree, I put the K&N cold air on my car and it is like night and day. Throtle response is better the supercharger can breathe, it sounds mean, and I picked up a lot of power. (not sure of exact #'s on hp but it feels good!) I am sure you can piece something else together but the kit from K&N is complete takes just a couple of hours to put on and it is already a proven set up!

The kit from K&N is a pretty nice kit as far as premade kits go, but the best tested kit is called the Wizair kit from ZZPerformance. The advantage the ZZP kit has is mostly the result of their cold air box being heavily insulated.

While I haven't had the opportunity to check out the K&N kit other than seeing pics on the internet but if its anything like their other products I'm sure the fit and finish is good.

But if you are a number cruncher and want the best numbers you can get - then the Wizair kit is still king. ZZP is the only CAI manufacturer willing to test their kit show testing info - not just quote numbers with no point of reference.

lol, the wizair has a k&n filter as an option

usually that means the k&n is an upgrade to the one normally sold with it, if any.

i also noticed that the wizair one is cheaper though

K&N: $356
Wizair: $254 (for the 04 series 3 with the K&N filter)

so about $111 difference. makes ya wonder if K&N is over charging or if the wizair is not as good. notice that they don't compare it to the kit K&N provides.

I checked out the kit by ZZ performance and it gives the exact part number of the K&N filter system (57-3049). The price difference is not all that much either. The one from ZZ performance is $259.99, and I found the K&N kit (57-3049)for $276.26 from demazon.com. Shipping is free from demazon.com but I'm not sure about ZZ preformance.

ahh i just pulled the numbers i found from the respective websites.

so yeah looking it over the only difference between the K&N and Wizair is that the wizair has a chamber the filter goes into.

I need someone who knows anything about the GXPs. I ahve an 05' There is an intake for the 06'. They claim it won't work with my car, yet the dealer says that the part numbers and setup are exactly the same from 05-07. Any ideas, Grand Prix family or who might know?

The K&N is worth the dollars spent IMO much better than the WIZAIR the intake tube on the wizair is junky and looks homemade whereas the K&N kit looks like factory and as far as HP claims K&N sends you a dyno sheet with the kit to show the HP difference,I've tried quite a few different intakes a homemaid CAI a FWI and this kit is a clean well working kit with a monster filter and a composite intake tube .Chico.(Pops)

I have heard this many times. I have actually gotten rid of K&N after reading some test results. They let alot of air, but don't really filter much dirt out eek eek
