2001 Grand Prix....to a 2004 GTP - 05/15/04 08:42 PM

Since my last inquiry about the 2004 GTP I had to replace the front outer tie rods on my GP that has only 68000 KM or 42000 Miles. That is pathetic, all aluminum parts worn out causing my front wheels to have over a half inch of play in both. I will attempt a refund from GM but i dont expect any luck since the warranty is up.Now I know why the warranty is only 3 years 36000 mi...absolutely rediculous...I hand the car back off lease in 60 days...now what do i lease???

You are mad... instead of beating the US automakers to death go try your luck with a foreign automaker....

Roll the dice bud.. you got a bad apple. Can happen to anyone anytime...

You know what the worst car in the industry is???

I'll give you a hint... the C Class... yes MSRP from $25K-$50K WORST IN THE WORLD!!!

Go figure..

Me I have owned 12 American made vehicles since 1997 and have had very good luck...

As for the 2004 GP only time will tell.. no one will be able to give you good reliability data for a while yet.

Tie rods go because of 1 of 2 reasons..
1 How you drive
2 The street conditions

Hard parts wear and they fail based on how they were manufactured and the two reasons Rich GTP stated. Tie Rods might also wear faster if you're running oversized rims and tires.

The only good thing about outer Tie Rods are that they are cheap and easy to install yourself. You'll have to get a front end alignment done afterward, but all in all the cost shouldn't be much more than about $70 to $80.
