Welcome aboard Michelle....please ignore the juveniles here! crazy

I haven't heard of any seat covers yet available for the '04s, but it will only be a matter of time until the aftermarket responds.

Fluid, I reject your characterization. I was asking a serious question, with extra question marks to show incredulity. So I will ask again, why would one want to purchase a cover for a leather seat?

  • Hot in the summer
  • Cold in the winter
  • Maybe its a lease car and they plan on returning it - so they have to keep it in good shape?

If I didn't tint my windows (and have heated driver seat), I know I would prolly get some covers too.

Leather is nice but not the best for temperature extremes in either direction.

Davemac, why in the heck would you assume I was refering to you? confused You didn't use silly smilies or insult the new poster did you? Nope, I wasn't referencing you at all. But then I didn't mean to offend the other poster either, just pointing out that politeness to new members is the correct approach....not insults. angel

Oh, Michelle, check out this company - they make seat covers for any car.

www.wetokole.com

Also check out the forum sponsor: www.pfyc.com - I think they may have seat covers for sale as well.

Re: 04" GP GT2, seat covers - 09/10/03 03:56 PM

She prob wants covers because if its anything like the previous GM leather they put in their cars (crap), the drivers side will look wrinked and worn after 30,000 miles IF that, even with liberal use of lexol or any other brand of leather cleaner/preservative. If its a lease car, the seatcovers could save hr some money later on.

Just a thought

Fluid, I leaped to that conclusion because you referred to "juveniles" in the plural and there had been only 2 replies to the original post. But enough of that.

I understand the speculation about the possible reasons, I guess I just disagree with them. I think leather stays cleaner, lasts longer, and looks better than the alternatives. I had my 97 GTP for 5 years and 100K miles, certainly longer than any lease period would run, without any problems with the seat. I concede that they probably feel hotter than cloth seats in the summer, but it never bothered me much, certainly not to the point where I'd consider covering them, and Michelle is evidently in my vicinity. But we haven't heard her reasons, not that she owes me any, and there were a couple of suggestions, so everyone should be happy.

Still, this idea reminds me of the plastic covers that my grandmother had on her living room furniture.

I love my cars and all, but GM leather, especially Pontiac leather - is bottom of the barrel leather.

Sit in a Cadillac, then Oldsmobile and Buick then come back to a Pontiac and you will see where GM uses good leather.

My driver's seat on my 97 GT has the worst leather cracking / damage you could imagine even before it hit 30K miles. On my 00GTP it is noticeably better.

I'll try to take some pics and post them later on, just so you can see the difference.

I would buy seat covers to cover my leather too. Same reasons, hot in the summer, cold in winter. If I could have gotten cloth seats in a GTP, I would have.

My grandparents, years ago in brooklyn, had clear plastic encasements on all their furniture. It would crunch when you sat on it. I thought they forgot to take the wrapping off. It sure did preserve that couch though.

I have the same exact car, with leather seats. They are not as hot as one would assume in the summer. And in the cooler weather the bun warmers are fantastic!

Bottom line is that I would not buy seat covers for my seats, unless like someone said they become cracked after a while. Then again, you're supposed to treat the leather to keep it in good condition.

I had a 2000 GTP with leather and put on the seat covers. When I traded for my new GTP and removed the covers, the seats looked brand new. The sales person even remaked on good they looked. When I can find some to fit the 2004, I will get them again. cheers

If you're going to cover up the leather to protect them, why not just get cloth instead??

You're paying for a depreciating option that you will never use. You pay $700 for the leather option. After 4 years you're lucky to get half of that cost back during resale.

I would like to purchase seat covers for my GP to preserve the leather seats. My husband works for a GM dealer and works on many vehicles with Leather seats and noticed that leather seats look terrible after a while and suggested i get covers.

When I first began to look for a new Grand Prix, it was because my last veh was totalled while parked. We looked preferably for an Orange Fusion Color Grand Prix GT and found 3 out of the 20 dealers we went to, and could not wait for an ordered veh due to having a rental. We wouldn't settle for Orange fusion with silver rims, jawdrop UGLY! we wanted chrome polished wheels and the only one we could find was the one with the leather seat's, bummer, my last car had cloth seats and looked brand new for an 11 yr old car...with no seat covers, ever. leather on the other hand...I guess if i begin protecting the seats now they'll last....

It's not the material has much as how the material is taken care of. Care for anything and it will keep looking good.
