Aftermarket Parts - 04/23/03 11:54 PM

One thing I'm a bit flustered about is the fact that Pontiac had to put the Series III engine in the 2004 car. I've had no problems with the Series II that I've had in my other cars... now I can't use the same aftermarket parts that fit on my L67 engine with the new car, which I believe is the L32 or something like that. Does anybody know if I can modify this engine the same way I have in the past?

I'm also looking for ANYBODY that may have any connection with GM on getting the front facsia that is on the GXP model of the Grand Prix not in production yet. I'll do anything for it or anything similar to it. It looks so much better!

Overall this car is kickin' but it needs to be:
1. Lighter
2. Lower
3. Have the 4T80-E and not the 4T60-E Transmission

I think that's all I've noticed for now... post any replies, I'd love to read your feedback!

Yes, the car is heavier than the previous generation, but only by 15 pounds (IIRC).

The car could be lower, but that is what the aftermarket is for. For the average consumer (not the 1% of enthusiasts) the car is better with a higher ride height. Between the springs available for the '97-'03 (G8) GP and GMPD parts that will be released, I think the lowering "problem" will be taken care of.

I agree that a beefier tranny would be nice, but the 4T80E is too big to put under the hood without some major changes.

As for the GXP fascia....the closest thing available are the nickel-plated grills and rear spoiler available from the dealer.

As for mods, depends on what you "normally" do. The G8 pulleys will not fit on the new GP, but there are new ones in development. The new TB is already MUCH larger than the G8 TB. The intake can be modified. I'm not sure if the G8 headers will fit. The exhaust systems currently available will fit on the new GP. What else?

When you are refering to "G8" are you refering to the Grand Prix GTP '97-'03, or are you refering to the G8 concept car with the LT1 in it? I'm a little confused... confused

Where can I find the nickel painted grills and spoiler that will fit my '04 gtp? I've looked everywhere.

The exhaust is the same? I can buy the SLP "loudmouth" exhaust for the '97-'03 and it will fit my '04? That would be awesome! Thanks a lot man!

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 04/26/03 02:25 PM

I believe when he says G8 he means the 8th generation of the car. I believe the current pulleys will work also. Some one just swapped to a 3.4 on the ClubGP forums.

The Pontiac parts department should be able to order the grills, spoiler and dual stainless tips in a few weeks. I'll get mine ( sans spoiler ) as part of the original deal, but they don't have the part numbers for them yet - once they are available they'll be on my '04. laugh laugh laugh

Once you have 20 posts you are upgraded to "fanatic". Look in the FAQ

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/06/03 11:47 PM

holy cow! Good thing my brother is a dealer and he can get it at dealer price, which is probably CHEAP... jeez, 240 for grills... that sucks!

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/07/03 01:04 AM

That is a pretty high tarrif for the grills - if they are plastic. For quality metal ones - nickel plated - that price would be closer to sanity. The tips' cost are about in line with retail for quality tips like Borla, etc. Of course you can find similar tips cheaper, but not with a factory warranty. laugh

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/07/03 07:02 PM

I checked at the dealer today, and the two parts are not yet available for shippment. When will they be? Unknown, but it could be days, it could be weeks. frown confused

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/08/03 03:44 PM

Took my 04 Comp G GTP to the dealership today to replace the driver's door armrest as the original had a blemish. Asked about the exhaust tips, spoiler and grill inserts. The parts department had a set of the exhaust tips (as shown in the dealer brochure) that had just arrived. I had them installed and they look awesome!!! They look far better than the originals. The tips cost $125.00 and the labor was about $80.00. With tax the total was $224.00. Not bad!! The bottomline: the tips are now available.

This is a pic of the tips, grills and wing on the original GXP.

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/13/03 01:48 AM

For those interested, the '04 GXT-type exhaust tips are now available from GM Parts Direct:

Part #12498009 "EXTENSION"

GM List - $156.43

Dealer Cost - $109.50

S&H - $ 21.90

Total - $131.40

GM Direct makes their profit in the S&H, so it is high. But compared to most "local" dealers the bottom line cost is usually lower. The grills will be available "soon"...

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/13/03 08:00 AM

JSYK, the tips on the GXP are NOT the same as the ones being offered by GM.

The GXP tips are Corsa Performance tips and run $150 each.

Good point JC....that's why I called them "GXP-type" extensions. wink

Here are two shots of the '04 aftermarket spoiler:

I just bought my 2004 this morning, should be ready for pickup Friday... laugh ...the dealer tried to get the new spoiler for it but apparently it's still not available yet...

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/17/03 04:33 PM

I think that everybody will agree that the spoiler is a lot better than stock! but my last question is this:

Is it a direct bolt on replacement, or does it bolt in different places hence making holes visible from the old small stupid looking spoiler that shouldn't have even come with the car?

Sorry, I just don't like the small one... it's too... small.

Nice pics, by the way.

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/18/03 09:49 AM

Hi, new guy here. Just picked up my '04 Sport Red GTP/WS6 last weekend, and I'm having a blast with it. Like some of you, I would like to upgrade the exhaust tips and spoiler to the "GForce/GXP" like parts. Does anyone know if you order the exhaust tips through GM Parts Direct if they come 2 per pack or do you have to order 2 packs?

Thanks,
Doug

Re: Aftermarket Parts - 05/18/03 11:41 PM

Lorenzo: Agreed...I *want* the bigger spoiler. I've never liked the big 'whale tail' kind of spoilers but this addon one is just the right size to accentuate the car without being too subtle or too overbearing. laugh

Tropic: Don't know for sure re: via parts direct, but I had my tips included on the purchase of the car and they are listed as a quantity of one with one part # and price on my invoice (same p/n as Fred listed above, although I got my tips for cheaper).

The GM Part number includes two "extensions". This is what you get in the box:

The grills should be out soon, the spoiler - who knows.... confused
