XM seems cool but I have a hard time grasping the concept of $10 a month to listen to the radio.

But on the lighter side... is Premier the brand? I am a car stereo noob. Give us some details.

Its the High End Pioneer brand. The model I purchased is actually like 3 from the top. Its pretty neat and as far as the monthly XM fee im gonna pay for one year in advance but I love it after using it in my friends CTS. As for my deck I just purchased here it is.

Pioneer 860mp

BTW I love d my old deck and it has only been out for about 8 hours and I already miss it but it had no MP3 and no XM controller.
It was a Eclipse 5423. Bad ass quality and clean design. I would recommend them to anyone that doesnt want a Sat controller integrated. However they are expensive.

That was my thinking too, "there's no way I'm going to pay for listening to the radio when I can hear it for free".
That was 3 months ago. I haven't listened to the radio since.

I bought my wife the Roady as a birthday present, she had been hinting around. I also paid for two years of service. I ended up getting one a month later. It's great, we both love it.

ARGHHHHh Went to get the XM tuner and no one carries the Pioneer tuner anymore. Reasoning is a universal tuner is coming to market..guess i have to wait!!

Re: New CD player - 09/01/04 08:26 PM

I never even considered XM radio until it appeared in my GP. I immediately appreciated the commercial free content, and the ability to switch over to a station that provides the musical genre to fit whatever mood I'm in. The programming could be a little better on the Jazz channels, but hey, it's pretty good. Another thing to consider is you don't have to search for radio stations when you go out of state. I like having CNN and ESPN News channels too. I'll probably subscribe.

As a side note, switching stations on the steering wheel and being able to see it on the heads up display is top shelf sweet.

Does anyone know the type of digital feed the XM radio provides?? Is it MP3 or some other compressed format, or are they actually sending PCM over satellite??

Just over a hundred bucks a year seems a little pricy for tunes rather than burning CD-R's but im a little ghetto on systems, on that note I LOVE BLAUPUNKT man those things bump even on a 4 spkr system, lots of blown fuses tho.

I like XM cost aside. I find that I hear a lot of new music and not just the local top 40 filled in with Nirvana and the Red Hot Chilipeppers on the local stations. thumbsup

What are you talking about man? 100 Bucks a year that is nothing. I dowload lots of songs and usually end up buying the cd anyways and with the XM direct im sure ill purchase even more cd's as i hear new artist............ill pay 120 a year for it......pocket change.

Re: New CD player - 09/09/04 12:26 AM

Buying the CD is far different from buying 40 CD-r's for 15 bucks and burning over 100 mp3's or 20 songs from a CD-burner per CD-R, I dont buy CDs... so 15 bucks for high quality cd's you make yourself or 100 for membership to a satellite xm. Perhaps its personal preference but some people dont have 120 bucks to throw around where 30 bucks gets me enough CD's to keep all the hot tunes on year round easily.
