COOLANT TEMP - 12/28/06 02:21 PM

Hey guys. I got my first check engine light today. The scanner gave me a code PO128 coolant temp below thermostat regulating temp. Has anybody had this happen and what does it mean?

It probably means your thermostat is stuck open and you need a new one. Nothing to serious or exspensive smile

I agree with jjcom on this.

STRANGEGTP & jjcom (if you are still logged on) Maybe you can help me out with this, I posted in under the gxp forum but you may have some input for me:

Question: Why am I having such a hard time finding Euro/Altezza tail lights for my 07'? Are they just not available yet? If anyone knows where to get them please help because the stockies are easily the ugliest part of the car!

Don't know. As far as styling goes for the 04 and GP's, there is not alot of aftermarket stuff.

Dang, I meant 04 and up GP's.

I forgot who it was on here but they actually painted their lights the color of their car. It looked pretty sweet.

Anything would make them look better, too bad they didn't consult mazda or nissan when they were designing them!! I think you're right, I don't think they offer them, I can't find them anywhere..been looking for 2 days.

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 12/29/06 11:02 AM

I have looked for them since I got my GTP a year ago. I'm going to paint mine when I get some time. You're right Phil, anything would make them look better.

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 12/29/06 11:33 AM

Will do. Back to the thermostat issue, should I get the 160 degree or 180 degree?

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 12/29/06 11:39 AM

well it shows you are from South Carolina so in your case you could probably go with the 160. The cooler your engine runs the more horsepower you will make. The reason I wouldn't do the 160 is I live in Ohio and need the car to heat up for defrosting the windows and to blow heat during winter driving. IF you do the 160 and are in a cold environment sometime, you will be waiting a LONG time to get any heat. I hade an 88" GTA years ago that I put a 160 in but had to go back to the stock one when winter hit. You probably won't have that problem though.

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 12/29/06 12:47 PM

The 180 would be a better idea, I'm not sure if the newer GPs have this issue, but below 160 degrees the PCM wouldn't detect knock. No reason to risk the motor smile

Cool, thanks guys!

go with the 180. the cold starts in the winter wil suck with a 160. and your heater will take longer to heat up

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 01/07/07 02:12 PM

My SES indicator has been on a while, the lube place ran it for me and it came back P0128 also. After reading this thread I replaced my thermostat this AM (the car had been running real cool rarely getting above 165-170).

My question is the SES light did not go away, will I have to reset that by disconnecting the battery or will the computer eventually reset it>

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 01/07/07 05:53 PM

The place you got it scanned at can reset it. I took mine to Autozone.

Re: COOLANT TEMP - 01/07/07 09:50 PM

You can unplug your battery for 20min or so it'll go off, or you can just wait and it'll go off if the problem is fixed. I think 3 trips (?) will do it
