I was reading Car&Driver and saw that the GTO lacks moon roof, auto climate control, heated seats, and heads up display? And it's still 33k?
It also talks about a limited 3 year run? Do you think these things will be available?
If not then maybe a WS6 GTP or G35 coupe is in my future. I still much prefer the looks of the GTO over the GTP though...find the 04' GTP a little ugly...

I believe it. It's trying to get the sports car feel. Although T-Tops would be nice.
Not sure about the limited 3 years though, I know next year they have a judge version going.
There is nothing that would make me buy a '04 GTP. I'm looking into a new car now, and those aren't anywhere on the list.

I have a friend that bought one. It wasn't a comp G. We ran at the track against each other. Even with my mods he thought he'd give me a run for my money. I wasted him. Ran a 9.0 at 78 compared to his 9.9 at 71! I felt bad for him. He said he should of kept his 2001 GTP. Then he went home to get his Dads 996 tiptronic porsche and we went again. I ran a 8.91 at 79 he ran a 9.18 at 80. LOL!

Reading that last post quickly, I spotted the capital "D" and 996 before I noticed tiptronic, Dads & porsche and thought of one of these, as I was also thinking, you're REALLY gonna get spanked...

Hmmm, I don't like the sound of that. We just bought our first GTP (Comp-G). What's wrong with the '04? My wife still misses her SSEi (totaled) but the GTP seems faster and tigher. Who knows, may wind up selling it and getting a GXP after they have been out a while (to get the bugs worked out).
As for the GTO, yeah, they don't have some of the ammenities (including XM). It was also mentioned that they do not have auto climate control. True, but not surprising since the GTP also does not have it.

A little dissappointed with the GTO, but was a good effort. Performance is perfectly good, of course. But I wish the styling were a little more bold; it doesn't look like the fast car that it is. And, what's with the wimpy exhaust? Did they steal that from a Honda?

I heard the Chevelle is coming back. It will use the same body as the Goat, but the front and rear will be different. That should be interesting to see.

Re: Options - 02/23/04 05:31 PM
There is a picture of that chevelle concept (based on the monaro) in the current issue of Hot Rod magazine on the shelves. I like the GTO better from the front but the rear of the chevelle is decent.

Ok my .02 worth..... The GTO is an in-between for GM to revamp the Trans AM and Camero.... Notice the new Corvette does not sport the 350 anymore! why you ask... the 6.0L is a more efficient, more powerful and just plain better engine. GMs idea it to re-release the Trans AM and Camero with the new 6.0L in a AWD package to grab a larger audience.
How cool would it be to get excellent 60' times, 1/4 mile times and still be able to go out in the rain and mild snow!
no more firebird trans am for me...
too old
bad back
bad knees
but i can still put the hammer down
,im so glad its spring..

Re: Options - 04/21/04 09:05 PM
But really, is the 6.0L all really that new? I have read that it is a bored and stroked ls1/6 from the latter days? Justwondering other than displacement what is new about the motor? Cam, rockers? All input is needed so that one we can
Put it where it belongs

Doesn't the new 6 litre also feature Displacement on Demand? (DoD)

I wonder how reliable the DoD will be. I know the knew hemi has it in the 300c, it would kinda be like having a hybrid corvette other than not so hybrid but great gas mileage, hmmmmmm anyone driven one of the DoD cars?
Keep it down

No Offense to anyone but I am finding it hard to comprehend any true Goat lover having any interest in the new GTO. Sure it's fast and handles well but it looks like a Toyota. Pontiac really put no effort into the design of this car. And out here on the East coast they are trying almost anything to sell these things.

Yeah but that is on the east coast. They sell like hotcakes here...I love the car it has distinct pontiac styling cues nothing at all close to a toyota from a design standpoint

Re: Options - 07/15/04 02:18 PM
I just sort of think that it's funny how Pontiac has always over-styled everything in the 80's and early 90's, but now that there's actually a model that lives up to Pontiac's image, they go conservative on the styling! What the hell? It's not a bad looking car by any means, and it seems to be put together very well. But, it doesn't look like the V8 Muscle/sports car that it is, more like just another 2 door coupe. The design is a little disappointing, but it could've been worse.

Re: Options - 07/15/04 04:27 PM
I think everyone is "stuck" on what the GTO became, not what it originally was. Everyone wants the winged, decaled, hood scoop/tach Judge version. I think it will come in a year or so.
Adam made a great point, Every article and writeup on pontiac cars said Stop with the stupid add on body cladding/wings/flares etc. So Pontiac cleaned it up and people still bitch.
Every letter you ever read to the performance mags, especially after the demise of the F-body is "make a RWD V8, 6 speed car with good performance and some room". So they did, and people still bitch
I think its a nice car, not great but a good start. Remember The original GTO looked like every other Tempest on the road. Couldnt tell it was a GTO till you got your ass handed to you at the stoplight.
The roadrunner started as a belvedere with 3 cartoon decals and a funny horn. No flashy styling, no wings, no flares, just a big motor in a normal car.
I think all that other stuff will show up.
Perhaps they wanted to start conservatively to gauge reaction and see where people wanted them to take the car, but they wont please everyone.
Just my .02 after taxes

Well said. I kinda wish Pontiac would've caught on to the "cleaner styling" thing years ago. Look at the new V8 Bonneville, and how they rounded off the edges, and took out some of the lines and ridges. That's one of the best looking damn sedans out on the market right now, period. They finally even cleaned up the Grand Am's a little too, all they had to do was finally remove the "ribs" or lines on the lower sides of the doors for 2003, and the car instantly takes on a new, handsome, more mature look. Well, it only took them 10 or 15 years to catch on to what everyone was saying, not bad I guess...

The Grand Am is/was Pontiac's best selling car. Because it was cheap? why not buy the Sunfire or Cav or Neon for that matter?

It looks great, and Id love to have one, but at $40k loaded its not going to roll out the door too fast. Local dealer had one and it sold but he hasnt gotten anymore.
Id say the grand am outsells the sunfire because it has a LOT more room for not all that much more money. The GP is more money still but doesnt offer as much an increase for the money over the grand am as the Grand Am does over the sunfire. IMO anyway.

Re: Options - 07/27/04 04:19 PM
Just because a car sells well doesn't mean it doesn't need styling improvements. For years, Pontiac got criticized for it's "overstyling" on its models. While I don't read too many car magazines any longer, I was always in agreement with what was constantly being said regarding their styling.
I tend not to take what critics say all that seriously most of the time. But, when you starting seeing the same things over and over, well there's probably something to it.

I'm not really just talking about the regular "consumer" magazines. More factual and worthwhile publications like Ward's AutoWorld, etc., which are published mainly for people in the quality industry and the automotive manufacturing industry itself. They're a little more knowlegeable that writing an article on "which car's glove compartment had more cubic centimeters of storage space", etc, etc.
I got sick of the regular magazines years ago...
well.... i stepped in
now i step out
but i no i won`t

I was at a car show and spoke with the owner of a GTO who said next year they are planning a lot of mods to the body style including a new hood with ram air scoops?
I hope in the future they will make the GTO look more sporty and like others have said provide features that usually are standard when you spend that much $$
the GTO for 05 options:
two new colors:cyclone gray metallic and midight blue metallic
transmission: 6-speed optional
hood scoop: delete
sport apperance pkg: autocross (3 colors ) only.
tires: P235/40ZR18,blackwall
wheels:18" x 8", 5-spoke aluminum

Very well said why2kmax, I never really thought of it that way. I just hope youre right. I love the front end of the GTO, I just happen to be a sucker for exaust, and what they put on it just isnt doin it for me. I think once that gets fixed, i.e. make it more similar to the smokin hot GXP, the car will take on much more of a muscle car image and thus sell much better. But thats just my opinion.

Ive said before that I liked the new GTO, and I liked the Fbody too, owned 3 of em.
Individualy Id pick the GTO over the TA.
BUT I saw an 02 Ram Air TA in dark blue parked next to a black 04 GTO on the pontiac lot the other day. Ive never seen the two cars parked side by side.
I have to admit, the GTO styling sort of paled in that light. THe TA looked like a T-rex about to kick your ass. The GTO looked like a golden Retreiver who wanted to be petted. LOL Now I have a better idea of what Jizz was bitching about.
I think Id still take a GTO because of the room and interior, but it sure wont scare anyone at a stoplight.

The hood scoops are an improvement though I think I would have gone a bit bolder. if I could afford one, even with the current styling Id get it just for the LS2 with the autocross body kit of course. Thats pretty nice too.
