window shopping for V8s - 03/03/08 08:50 PM

The 'Bird is having a hard time staying running. Im effin fed up with this. Its time to start buying engines one part at a time or as a turn-key. The stores I've shopped at so far are ClassicIndustries.com, Autozone.com, EBay.com, Jegs.com, Summitracing.com, JCWhitney.com, NapaOnLine.com, and CSKAuto.com. Where else am I forgetting about?

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/03/08 09:06 PM

thats another reason I need the other stores that I may or may not be missing. I might build my own. Then again, it would be nice to be able to merely stab a mill after this whole fiasco

www.paceparts.com
http://www.sdparts.com/

Both carry factory crate engines at unbeatable prices for stock engines. I have taken printouts of prices from these website to my local dealer and they met their prices after shipping was added in. I didn't save any money, but I was dealing with a local dealer if I had any issues.

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/04/08 10:11 PM

Why not play the old game of finding a 350 in a junkyard, bore it, buy performance heads, cam, intake, and carb and be happy?

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/05/08 09:15 PM

Same here, the 350 in my 89' vette! Thing is nasty, and all it has is a drop in KN, deleted muffs, and possibly a shift kit.

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/05/08 09:17 PM

ive got a 350 block

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/05/08 09:17 PM

so Im askin without doin any searching of my own: the 89 Vette and 85 'Bird: are they roughly the same weight or is the Vette lighter?
Posted by: 4drgt

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/05/08 09:56 PM

not a fan of 80's vettes ... birds look better in those years
Posted by: RooK

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/05/08 10:39 PM

The 'Vette is fiberglass isn't it? Probably does weigh less, especially since it only has room for two seats.

*Chants*
LS1 ...LS1 ...LS1 ...LS1

Posted by: 20gtp02

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 01:01 PM

Yup fiberglass. If my dad took care of the car, I gave it back to him and got the GTP, it would look sick. I love certain 80s-early90s vettes. But they also stuck some seriously ugly rims on some of them.

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 02:15 PM

who you chanting to Mike? You tryin to chant to the choir? What I REALLY want is the LS9/T56 set up. I doubt that I could ever justify a 17-21,000 USD engine to MYSELF. Nah, LS1 is certainly in the lead right now. a complete drivetrain for 4200 USD? ooooh, I hope I make bank during this move...hot DAMN I want that freakin drivetrain.

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 02:18 PM

'bout to PM you with info...

Also remembered my dad has a few engines sittin in okie land he'd prolly be willing to sell. A couple of SB 350's, a SB 400, and a BB 454. All of 'em carburated monsters of sorts. That lil' 400 would do you well in the bird. wink

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 02:21 PM

*in whiney voice: but I wanted injected____!

dude, a 400 SBC? Hmmmmmm, we just might hafta talk turkey, dude.
Posted by: SlickGTP

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 02:23 PM

You can always put aftermarket injection systems on old carburated engines. :p

I've toyed with the idea for the 427 Chevy BB sitting in my garage. eek

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 02:30 PM

none of them engines goin anywhere for at least a month or so, are they? got that move comin up pretty quick here, and wanna settle before tryin to snap anything up, ya know?
Posted by: SlickGTP

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 03:01 PM

None of 'em have moved in years and I'd be surprised if they move anytime soon. If they did I'd prolly be grabbing at least one.
Posted by: Richard Candelario

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 03:46 PM

lol, great. Hope they dont move, for my sake, then.
Posted by: SlickGTP

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/06/08 05:00 PM

I'll ask my dad how much he wants for 'em next time I talk to him.
Posted by: 20gtp02

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/08/08 09:07 AM

If they haven't moved in years, I think you probably have to hot tank the whole thing and tear them apart.

My buddy is selling his mom's toyota corrola (think it is a corrola I saw in the driveway) for $200. Had lots miles (not sure how many) but needs work to get it running. Looks like good shape. I had an itch looking at it a little to use it for economy or to do something a little nuts to it, make it fast! That is if I could even fit in the damn thing. 6'6" probably wasn't designed in that cars making!

Re: window shopping for V8s - 03/08/08 10:55 AM

LOL, I'd hafta agree. My Dad's 5'11 and was pretty uncomfortable in our 91 Corolla.
