My PC Update - 03/02/09 04:57 PM

Well I at least know Lone will be wanting to take a look at this thread.

I upgraded my sound card, got some addition cooling for my PC and decided to take some pics and I know how everyone here loves pics so here's inside of my PC case.

Im sure noone will notice but I edited the cooling system of the motherboard. The heatsinks normally had heatpipes which spanned the motherboard but instead I chopped those off and added my own copper heatsinks and fans which cooled everything 10c offering more overclock headroom.

I remember the air cooled days lol.

Ever heard of wire management? lmfao no offense but your cutting the airflow with all that wiring everywhere. Then again idk which case you have. My old antec 1000 case allows for room to run behind the motherboard panel. Kinda hard to close that side panel but well worth it.

Lookin good bro!

Yup, I would have gone with liquid cooling but I have seen my friends system. Reviews said it would never leak and people told him it would never leak but it ended up doing so and ruined his entire pc. I wouldn't risk the liquid in my system.

Also forgive me for the wire clutter, I haven't gotten around to cable ties yet.

I have the Thermal Take armor jr case, im sure I could run some wires and hide them there but a lot of the wires I have arn't long enough to do that so that is not an option for me unfortunately.

The CPU has a vantec tornado and 2 120mm intake fans and 92mm side fan as well, im not really too considered if things are getting air because I know they are. The cooling is at 30c at idle 40idle at load and thats with overclocked Q6600 w/ 8800.

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:09 PM

I'm still mad I sold it but I needed the $ he paid way more then it cost for me to build it haha

Custom liquid cooled system are the way to go not the crappy thermaltake systems.

I did a custom swift tech system worked extremely well. Ill go into details if needed.

I had 3 fans cooling off the rad in the front of the case and then another 3 behind the rad.

I lap my cpu's btw drops like 18*

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:11 PM

Sounds interesting and I'm sure would be great for overclocking but on air I've hit 3.6ghz overclocked on my Core2Quad Q6600 and don't even think the processor can handle anything beyond that.

I lapped my heatsink as well and dropped 8c.

Getting liquid cooling I think would be more of a waste of money at this point considering the amount spent on air cooling already.

Eh that is what I thought too lol

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:13 PM

Yah that is true. My processor wasn't anywhere near that much but I wouldn't do that ever. I think the gain from lapping the heatsink was enough to satisfy and not as big of risk.

What watt PS do you have?

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:15 PM

Apevia 680w. I need to upgrade considering everything I have, im sure im underpowering pretty badly but for some reason it can run stable with any overclock I throw at it as long as im at or under 3.6ghz.

I dont know if you can tell but I replaced the southbridge and northbridge chipsets with heatsinks. That really allowed me to boost up the FSB which is how the Q6600 can be overclocked and only way, stupid locked multipliers.

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:17 PM

Ya well with the economy the way it is I'd stick with it or increase a little. Trust me I ran an Antec 1000watt PS for 3 weeks and ya screw that hahaha.

Which Q6600 do you have?

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:18 PM

It hasn't failed me for a good solid 2 years so I can't say its going bad or shows any signs of going bad so why replace it?

What kind of processor do you have and what graphics card?

BTW, i have the Q6600 2.4ghz currently running 3.4ghz ...specs are listed below

Q6600 @ 3.4ghz (1512mhz FSB)
4gb of Patriot Viper Ram (900mhz)
BFG 8800 GTS 640mb OC
Asus P5N32 E SLI PLUS (Frankenstein mobo 560 &570 chipsets)
Soundblaster snd card
Raptor 10k 150gb harddrive.

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 05:25 PM

I meant is it G0 stepping etc?

Right now I have an HP Laptop and an old P4 H/T "server" overclocked at 3.0 lol

I used to have Q9550 2.8 E0 stepping
SLI 8800gtx's that I was in the process of upgrading to either 9800gtx's or ATI 4850 etc
EVGA 780i

Re: My PC Update - 03/02/09 09:42 PM

Looks good Alpine. But I have to agree, you could do some serious cable management there lol!

Other than that, hope she's running strong for ya. Got a friend at work with a new Dell with an i7 processor in it.

Saw the heatsink on the cpu and went O.O!
