What do u guys think about my cherokee project?

i know its not a grand prix but i figured i would share a little about what i have been up to the past couple of months.
after i got the gtp the way i wanted it i didnt have anything else to tinker with. and seeing as its running strong with no signs of stopping i decided to look around for a project.

i found this for 300 bucks. its a 1989 jeep cherokee 4.0l auto 4x4. it has 120,000 miles and surprisingly runs great. its rust free and had a straight body. the front was a little smashed from a crash but i could deal with that.

me and my friends stripped it sold the parts bought a used lift and tires and wheeled the piss out of it.


needless to say i started to fall in love with it and decided to tackle the process of making it the coolest cherokee ever.
so i cut the top off

then i brought my freinds over and we started doing body work



then i found someone parting out a 1997 2 door cherokee and scored some banged up parts for super cheap

they were banged up kinda bad but i figured the bodywork would be fun

i also got a comanchee tailgate (jeep cherokee pickup) and started fabbing a way to have a working tailgate

keep in mind i have never welded before this project^

we shaved the side blinkers and fixed the dents and scratches

thats badass how come i cant find any cool cars like that for 300

then we traced and cut out the fenders for the wrangler fender flares (it is sopposed to be wavy thats the footprint of the flare)

stuck the flares on a trimmed up the sides


and here is what i have as of today

that truck is BA man!!

i still have a lot left to do. plans are for it to eventually be street legal.

i still have to put the back flares on

i am going to mold caddy tail lights in

going to add a roll bar

front winch bumper
and a lot more

please tell me what u think. all advice is helpful. i have never done anything like this before. my friend(the guy working in all the pictures) is helping me with the bodywork but everything else i have done alone

total invested so far: under 1000 bucks

I'm likin it. I'd look at getting rid of the doors altogether.

One of those tube style baja type bumpers would look good on the front. For your winch you can put a 3" reciever on both the front and rear so you can move the winch to which ever end you need to use it on.

Instead of just a roll bar how bout a tube cage that sits outside of the body so when you roll the cage takes the abuse and not the body.

he wants to make it street legal Herc. lol Im pretty sure the outside rollcage isnt going to be street legal..unless im wrong.

the doors are totally removable. i modified the hinges so u just open the door all the way and lift up... just like the wranglers.
i plan on turning thes old tube tire racks into "tube doors" for the summer also


as far is the exo cage goes. that would be totally sweet! however i dont have a tube bender nor want to spend the money to get it bent so i am going to tie in that yj roll bar you guys saw in some of the other pics with straight tube

i will paint the chrome dont worry.
and no i put the snorkel on when i put the new fenders on and i havent wheeled since.
it probably wont leave the house unless it snows a lot and i can take it out and not get caught or spring when its done

I miss my 92' wrangler on a shackle lift with 31" BFG A/T.
I put that thing through hell.
The cherokee is ugly, but I am sure you still have more plans to get it looking sweeter!

i had a 98 grand cherokee and i LOVED IT i am a big jeep fan i couldnt get that think stuck for the life of me, and yes i abused it lol i it "was" a perfect car, flawless and spotless until i got alittle carried away messing around and i rolled and totaled it ... looks like you dont have to worry at all about that lol maybe a lexan front winshild ??
