Re: New Computer = New Desktop (56k) - 11/15/09 01:55 AM

I say we post up system specs:D

Q6600 Core 2 Quad @ 3.2ghz (blessed with G0 Stepping) (daily use) (400mhz bus x 8 multiplier) I have hit 3.7 ghz orthos stable 12 hours on air cooling.
EVGA GTX 275 876mb Vid Card (Oc'ed a bit)
Asus Mobo w/ a few mods coming soon like new southbridge, northbridge chipset coolers and better mosfet cooling solutions.
2x4gb Patriot Viper Ram DDR2 800mhz Ram (@ 1066mhz)
Raptor 10k RPM 150gb Harddrive
Thermaltake Armor Jr Case
Plethra of fans and cooling devices.
27" LG Flatron 2ms Monitor 1080p and 1000:1 contrast ratio and all those goodies.

I'm running windows 7 Pro 64 bit on it and overall very fun PC to be on and great for gaming and every day use. Haven't had a problem and it has been overclocked stable @ 3.2ghz for over a year and a half now. Hoping to hit 3.8-4.0ghz w/ chipset cooler solutions. I've also looked into phase change and liquid cooling as well which may be my only option for any higher then 3.7ghz.

Re: New Computer = New Desktop (56k) - 11/15/09 02:51 AM

Win7 Pro 64-bit
3.0GHz AMD Dual Core
8GB of OCZ Extreme DDR2 memory 800GHz
1 600GB WD SATA drive (don't know specs but it's only slightly slower than raptor)
2 250GB WD IDE hard drives

I don't remember what my graphics card is...it's ATI 512mb something or rather...it's not up to snuff yet. I've also got a Hauppauge PV150 TV tuner, Linksys N wireless, and a bunch of other periphrial crap.

Re: New Computer = New Desktop (56k) - 11/15/09 03:22 AM

Does anyone here own a solid state harddrive?

I've been looking into getting 150-200gb Solid State drive to run Windows 7 off of and see how well that performed w/ everything else I have. As of now the bottleneck's in all system's are harddrives.

The solid state drives really have me interested and it is amazing how much quicker they are then regular hard disks.

Watercooled I7 SLI system all that needs to be said.

Anyways Microsoft is being way to cocky with windows 7. Way too many cracks when it first came out. Beta's were better IMO

I thought about it but couldn't justify the cost, especially for my desktop. From what I was reading solid state drives would not be ideal for the OS because they only have a limited number of read/writes before they burn out. Your OS does so many read/writes for page files that it would burn out quickly.

I assume you can turn off paging files in Win7 some how...but I'd still be leary of putting my OS on a SS drive since I don't know what other files the OS may read/write.

I would wait on buying an SSD in that size. As was said they do have limited life. Even with their new wear leveling and write combining they still die out with the current firmware. You also have to take into consideration with SLC and MLC etc. I would just wait off because the price is still upto $3 more per gig.

Gotta hustle lol. I get deals on everything and I spent less than what most spend on best buy over the counter comps.

http://www.pricewatch.com

I got a few deals there bought the GFX cards used cheap and i had the watercool system from my old setup that I sold last year.

I buy parts build em for cheap and end up getting rid of them and making money on em lol.

The only comp I have ever kept was the first one I build an old P4 h/t 4 gigs soon to be nitrogen cooled lol

Here's mine. Nothing special really, I love the new Super Duty though. My laptop has a full HD screen so it's kind of tough to find backgrounds that are full HD as well. I've run through all the Mustang backgrounds I could find so now it's on to trucks.

Computer is an HP HDX 16 Premium Laptop. Running 4GB of RAM on Vista Premium (Windows 7 upgrade is on the way) and an Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.13GHz. My favorite thing about it is the Blu-Ray player and the 1080p screen.

I used this link.
http://www.techspot.com/guides/196-recycle-bin-on-windows-7-taskbar/

A lot of places have ones that aren't functional, but this one allows you to drag things directly to the icon on the taskbar.

Re: New Computer = New Desktop (56k) - 11/19/09 12:15 PM

Nice tip! Thanks!

Screen shots of my desktop are boring. I have a black background with no icons, and then my desktop is a moving slideshow of black and white photos of the band Sublime.

When I get some more free time I'm going to trim some sublime songs into .wav files to create my own theme. I was hoping Windows media would let me convert .mp3 to .wav and trim them down (like the old one did), but I can't seem to figure out how to do it, so I guess I have to download a program.

anyway, my desktop is as clean as ordonez's now.

I used to be so tense and not able to get the right deal in term of finding the computers or anything electronics though but nowadays, I can search for better learning segment with https://productz.com/en/microsoft-wireless-comfort-desktop-5050/p/K2YyG online productz which provides me alot of good stuff and matching computer desktop though
