Building an AR-15 - 08/10/05 08:55 PM

Well i thought long and hard, and came up with building my AR-15, and getting the small intercooler(is it any good though or worth it or should i just said up more money?), but how do i build up an AR-15, i know they have a place at the gun shows that says you can build your own, one but i dont want to go without a list, so is there a list outthere that says what i need?

Ok, are you building everything or a kit from model1sales.com like I suggested? If you're building a kit, it should come with the upper already assembled. In that case, you'll just need to assemble the parts and stock onto the lower. This should cover it: http://ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/

If you assemble and upper, you'll need an action block, vise, barrel wrench, moly disulfide, and a punch and hammer. The site posted above should have info on that as well, on the forums if not on a dedicated page (they have a whole build section).

As for the short stack intercooler, you can look over at clubgp and search for posts. There are some guys over there that have it and can offer input.

They're as reliable as any other AR. The aforementioned site has plenty of reviews of them. As stated earlier, most problems center around bad FCG parts included or a crooked front sight base. Both are corrected by new parts from the company.

If you order a model 1 sales kit, this is all you need:
- Roll Pin Punches 3/32", 1/8", 5/32"
- Roll Pin Holders
- Hammer
- #10 Flat-Blade Screwdriver
- Block of wood
- Allen Key Set
- Telescoping Stock Wrench (might be able to get by this if you have a wrench set).

You will have to assemble the stripped lower (purchased seperately for $100~), but once that is done, the upper just pops on and you're ready to go.
