Ok so it is not IMPOSSIBLE that the car has 65,000 BUT ford only had 5 digit odometers back then, so you roll back to 0 and start fresh after 99,999.9

What a dumb idea , 5 digit odometers.

anyway instead of at least playing the "no idea" card, they put ONLY 65,000 MILES! as if it is original. for $599, I doubt it.

Not when you think back to the mid 70s 50K was high mileage. 30k was time to trade in. And 100k was not even considered. The big three came out and admitted they engineered the cars so they wouldn't last a long time to get people to come back and keep buying a new car every three to five years.

You would be surprised, actually. Some people just need money real fast. Or just want rid of stuff. Like me. My Camaro is low mile for the year and in good shape, but I only want $800 for it.

Yea, but that is a DEALER, not a private party seller.

The price is fine, even if it had 165k , $500 for a good running car is a deal. BUT I KNOW how dealers work, and if it was original 65k, and MINT condition, they would be asking more.

For those cars with the 5 didget odomitor. I know Arizona titles have a spot on there for "roll over" and a number there so you know how many times its "rolled over" and that is kept up to date every year when registration renews.

I think used dealership get a bad rep because they will do and say anything to sell a car. And some don't even care that you know it. I am helping my younger brother look for a car and one lot when went to tryed to sell us a 1990 BMW for $4000 and when we told him we weren't interested they looked at us like were crazy.

When a car is purchased at an auction, all the paperwork inside is removed and trashed, so even if it was a 1 owner rig, all the maintenance records would be lost.

there is NO way for the dealer to know what has or has not been done.

I had a salesman at a small lot once, tell me that the odometer wasn't working on a car, and he "bumped a wire " by the battery and the odometer started working again, but it showed 25,000 miles.

first of all I know better than that, and 2nd of all, even if that was true, you'd never know the real mileage from when it stopped working.

it is very difficult for a dealer to have any knowledge of what was done, UNLESS you trade your car in, and include the previous maintenance, and then they can prove the work, Other than that it is BS, or speculation ( Oh yea, these people were very nice, I am pretty sure they followed the maintenance schedule) Really? nice means you follow the schedule?

that is why I call them glorified carnival workers. Say anything to get you hooked.

When I bought my car the salesman tryed to tell me he knew nothing about the car when I asked him a few questions about it. Thats when I let loose that I had a GTP before and was a part of the forums and what not and I knew my fair share about these cars.

I got my car for the price I picked, got anything I didnt like fixed before I bought, and made out tremendously on my trade in, got $1000 out of a car I paid $400 for and beat the living ba-jeezus out of.
