What a DAy - 08/20/07 09:17 PM

I had the honour of assisting with the arrival of G W himself today....I must admit whan I walked up to AF 1 it was quite amazing, It is one of the most striking aircraft I have seen.
After that, we had to deal with a few protesters..I guess George isnt popular with some of the masses....
Just wanted to share a bit of my day

Thats awesome! I have heard many people say they hate the US, but I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Air Force One.

Re: What a DAy - 08/21/07 07:59 AM

they brought Marine One and AF1?...whats up with that?...sounds like you had a busy but awesome day.

If any of you ever get the chance to visit the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton Ohio, make sure you take the bus ride over to the experimental aircraft hangar because you get to tour the adjacent hangar as well, which houses several historic former AF1s...Roosevelt's DC-3...Eisenhower's Lockheed Constellation and Kennedy's Boeing 707...awesome stuff!

Hey, pop quiz:

WITHOUT looking online, or anywhere else, who can tell me:

1. How many AF1s are there?

2. What is the designation of the AF1(s) when POTUS isn't aboard?

Re: What a DAy - 08/22/07 03:29 AM

there are 2 presidential 747s. I know that when nixon was in office the 707 was MAC 27000 but I doubt thats what the current ones are.

Wow, good answer. It was a trick question, and yet you got it right...lol Any plane the POTUS is on is AF1, but there are two presidential 747s. I was hoping to trip someone up with that... mad lol

What does MAC stand for? Because I may have worded that last question poorly...or may have been misinformed myself. I know the ANSWER I was looking for, but I may or may not have asked the correct question for it. lol

Re: What a DAy - 08/22/07 06:56 AM

I was wrong, it was SAM 27000. Not sure where I got "MAC" from, but SAM means Special Air Mission. That the tail number of the plane. When the President wasnt on board its call sign would be its tail number. Or at least thats the way it happened when nixon was officially out of office yet onboard AF1.

Actually any aircraft that has POTUS on board is referred to by the branch of the military and then "One" (Air Force 1, Army 1, Marine 1, Navy 1, Coast Gaurd 1)

Re: What a DAy - 08/22/07 01:59 PM

Then yes, I had asked the right question, and it hasn't changed much since Nixon. It's 28000 and 29000 for the two today.
