Vehicle Highlights

With the production SS Supercharged arriving in dealers later this year, GM Performance Division has already been tweaking. Never a group that can leave well enough alone, Performance Division’s modus operandi can be clearly seen in the Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe. This vehicle was created to demonstrate the potential for street performance. The subtle exterior treatment of this show vehicle cloaks a host of engineering upgrades that yield significant improvements in acceleration and handling. Horsepower hits 270, larger brakes spin at the ready, and a lowered suspension steadies the chassis. Carbon fiber cues hint at the performance potential of this complete package.

270 horse thats good. But they better do that 270 horse for less than 800 bucks otherwise the srt is still king captain. And with the release of stage 3 impending any moment for the srt the cobalt doesnt stand a chance. Because i know chevy is quoting crank power not wheel power. the srt comes with tru 230 wheel horse. Proven on a dyno. interesting to see what happens. maybe they will do something like this for the GXP like AWD and 6 spd manual transmission about 340 horsepower and then the ability to stomp a 50k S4. SNAP!!! I woke up and the last part will never come tru.

SRT4 starts at 21k for 230 hp the stage 3 is gonna push 30k for pricing. And the stage 3 is just shy of 300hp. The Cobalt won't have different stages of SS. And for the price if they keep the 270hp under 25k they'll have a big seller on their hands.

The Cobalt will be $22K for the SS but will only have 205HP. The 270HP is a "concept" vehicle. But I think if the SS sales are up they may produce the 270HP version on a limited bases early next year.

And on a side note the Cobalt is a nicer car than the Neon. It is not all about speed with GM.

Facts: Stage 2 pushes about 270 WHP thats not crank numbers i have dyno sheets on this. Stage 1 pushes about 265 WHP but stage 2 has a 'FLATTER' curve. Stage three isnt out yet and it is going to be in the 4-5k price range and the power range is looking at about 350 WHP. These are not crank numbers. If Chevy sells the CObalt SS with 270 WHP for 25k that would be a decent deal. But with stage 2 running in the 1,800 dollar range and proven reliability chevy has good competition. 22k + 1800 = 2500 really close be interesting to see the final results between the 2. Maybe this could mean chevy getting serious with competition. Or gm as a whole what with v-8's and high horse 6's going into several cars next year.......

Yeah its about squeaks and rattles and not being serious. One thing the SRT is, serious. And one more thing.

Is GM really going to make a smaller car out run the GTP and potentially the GTO? Because they are putting it close.

270 booooooooo that will probably translate to like 230 horsepower on the street...........

Re: SRT4 killer? - 11/11/04 01:08 PM

still better then the 194 fwhp the gtp has. The only rice thing about it is that cheesey ram air scoop. GM should put a cowl induction scoop on it like all good chevys have. And I did acknowledge that "I hope GM goes through with this."

gm has to do something to stay competitive, but there are plenty of gps around that can smoke a srt, i did last summer, the guy was cool we talk when we see each other at the pumps, couldnt resist his plate said race this, so i did lol
