This turbo is about 4' in diameter

This one was being delivered. It was only 2 days old when it came through. Some of the paint was still "tacky" and we left finger prints in it lol

stray that hung around for a few days.

Me after I no longer had to wear the "green" hat and could finally wear the "orange"

Sweet pics, man. Thanks for posting them. 6" pistons? 4' turbos? How much wtq and whp are those monster pushing out? Are those 16 cyls V or straight?

V engines. The piston with a hole is from a cummins. Similar to that of a semi truck. The big engines are 3,000hp and up. The big motors waiting for fuel are 4,400hp. All of which drive generators that power electric motors.

Here's a link to the cummins engine. Each genset has three of those.

The big motors are single engine.

Here's a promo from GE about the new engines

Sooo... Herc mind sending me one of decommissioned turbos. Were gonna strap it to my GTP. I'm sure after a few hours we'll get it spooled up. wink

Here is a video of the Cummins K19. It's similar to the ones we use only difference is the intake manifold. Each piston has it's own head. Makes repairs easier. The comapany NRE who we bought our piece of junk gens sets from used innercoolers that were too small. As a result the turbos over heat and the exhaust manifolds would get so hot that they would start sagging from the weight of the exhaust. If caught soon enough the you usually find gaskets blown out and the turbo and manifold are warped and have to be replaced.

How many KWs do those things push out?

That's such an interesting job, but I think I'd have more fun with smaller motors.

The big boys put out just over 3200KW.

Sounds like the monsters I saw out on the more austere reaches of Kandahar AB.
