Well I finally decided that it was time that I needed to get rid of the nasty U-bend. I had exhuast shop take a look at it and there going to be putting a straight pipe threw it that there going to fab up themselves. Guy told me that the 02 sensor being on the side would cause a real big issue with snow hitting the sensor and killing it. I just said that shouldn't be an issue and told them to set up a time for me to come in. The guy tried to convince me as well that I wouldn't notice ne gains at all from it. I think with the mods I currently have this will contribute well so we will see thursday. I dont think the sound should be much different but im sure someone whos gotten the u bend delete can pitch in and talk about theirs..

When I did my custom cat back I had them bring the 2.5 pipe the whole way up to my cat there in deleting the u-bend. They put the 02 in at an angle not the whole way on its side.

Tell that exhaust shop guy that o2 is not needed anyways, it only detects cat in-efficiency.
Then tell him to try and blow a golf ball through a garden hose and ask him if it would be easier with a larger hose. This is basically the same thing. It's a bottle-neck.

Wasn't planning on it. Just like every other mod I have its just a breather mod. Just building up the car one step at a time. It's just sad that appearance had to come first:( Feel almost in the same boat as Palsut, and we have similar color cars:(

Never thought it would be a big gain. I just know I want to get rid of the U but with my current financial limits I can only afford having the U bend deleted which im getting a good deal on cause hes using stainless steel on it and installing for $80. Of course you know how the mod bug is, when it bites you just gotta have it, and well I don't think I have the financial maturity to save up enough for a downpipe. It's quite sad but at the same time true, but then again I am a college student and money is hard to come by sometimes.

$80? Ouch.
If I were I would save it and put that money towards a dp.

Is there an advantage over getting a downpipe from the u bend delete besides that of a new cat? If not I think the having the straight tube going threw would be just as good..

yeah, $80 is a lot for just a U-bend delete. I got my 3" bolt-in catless DP for about $100 plus shipping. I didn't need a torch but I did soak the bolts with PB Blaster and they came out fine.

Well being that I don't have much money would this be an option? http://www.wbodystore.com/grandprix/w-body-store-25-downpipe-p-181.html Get a new cat (not sure if its high flow?) and complete downpipe 2.5" and its only 30 bucks more...I could do that.

do you have emissions testing?
if you do, you'll fail, guarantee.
Yes, you'll notice a bit of a difference, louder especially with no cat.

The smell of your exhaust will be much more noticeable, smelling more of fuel etc. Also you will get a nice poof of black smoke when you punch it.

Do not go with a 2.5" DP. Go 3" NA or SC.

I assumed it was going to be a while for him to get to that mod level. Even if he does get the DP, he can always get a PLOG, lots of SC guys run them.

I would just get the 2.5 DP for now, headers really aren't a huge expense in comparison to a top-swap. If you're going to go through that expense, might as well complete your exhaust work at the same time. As Herc said, you will see gains with the 3, but only on the top end, and you will probably feel the hit on the bottom end.

I have to agree with everyone else. Get the DP! I only paid $148 for my Magnaflow (Car Sound) DP about a year ago (it's $186 now) http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE%2D23405&N=700+4294923429+4294924677+4294908153+4294908148+4294840137+4294838974+115&autoview=sku I put it in myself and it was very easy (once I wrestled the old rusted on DP off). It was a perfectly fitting bolt on. The cat has never thrown a code, so no need to bypass the O2 sensor. It's only 2.5", but I'll never spend the $$$ for headers/top end swap/SC/etc. Combined with the Dynamax catback exhaust, it sounds nice, and there was an improvement in power and mpg.
