Hello,

I just bought a used, Dark Red 2002 Grand Prix GT. 73k miles and in excellent condition. It has a light brown cloth interior and all except the front 2 speakers is stock. I got the car checked out and beyond a few dings and dents, all it needed was a tranny fluid change. I'll probably have quite a few questions in the future, but for now I just have these two:

What kind of wash/wax will help most when it comes to pitted paint?

When hitting higher RPMs (3k+), my engine makes high pitch squeal. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

Anyway, thanks for you time.

1) I don't think there is anything on the market for pitted paint, except a new paint job.

2) Possible loose belt. confused

3) Welcome aboard. savewave

Thanks.

I don't think that the noise has anything to do with the steering. I have yet to hear the noise change while turning. The noise isn't too loud and only happens between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. As I said before, it is only noticeable for a second or two in higher RPMs right before changing gears.

The loose belt sounds likely, I'm going to check that out after I get some gas.

And pictures as promised. I'm waiting for the weather to get better so I can give it a good cleaning.

Very nice, I had a simular problem and it was my belt, tensioner puller(if I said it right), and my car doesn't make the noise or engine doesn't skake anymore.

I believe its the belt for yours if its just making a high pitch noise, from what I was told when it make that noise, its just the the belt is worn or strecthed out of place. Check on the belt to see if there's any slits or puncture wounds on the belt.

As for pitted paint. Try Clay Bar. Its a finishing tool that removes oxidation and light pitting, its very time consuming but man it can do wonders for older paint jobs.
Do a search on the internet, you will find all sorts of links for it.

I think Turtle Wax even makes it.

Welcome! Congrats on the car; I saw one at the local cruise last Sunday. Same color combo and wheels, and very clean, too. I'll second what HercMan said about the color; this one caught my eye from across the parking lot! thumbsup

Thanks, I looked at the belt and it looks like that's the problem. I'll change it as soon as I have time.

Also, I'll be buying some Clay Bar to see if that helps. I have some noticeable pitting above the spoiler and in 2 spots on the hood. Hopefully the Clay Bar can take care of that.

Whoever had this car before me took great care of the interior and engine, but I don't think they washed it regularly.

I clayed mine and it really did wonders. Didn't really notice what it did until a week later when I went to do my weekly car washing, dirt just fell off it and made it look like betterthan new. I highly suggest a claying and a good wax (I use meguires mirror wax)

Welcome. Paint doesn't look bad at all from what I can see.

Your hood freaks me out...why is it so smooth? There are no indentations at all. Mine is a 2002 but has like a lowered hood scoop type indentation.
