I've been off list for awhile, and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for by searching older messages.

I seem to recall in the past someone posted that you can put a '99+ air deflector on a '98 to help with (airflow) cooling. Anyone know if that is true, and if so, anyone have a photo I can use for reference. I was thinking of looking for this part in a boneyard.

Also, anyone using Casper's fan wiring kit? The one you can turn on/off yourself? If so, how do you like it?

Thanks in advance.

An easy fix for you to help your cooling since you live in Florida, is run 70% water/30% coolant with a bottle of redline water wetter to keep your water pump lubed. You can also get a GTP radiator. A PCM from ZZP turns your fans on at 185 combined with a 180 thermostat will really help your cause. I believe stock, your fans will not come on until about 220 with a 195 thermostat.

Hey, rocketman.
Hope things work out on this fan deal.
However, the local central florida club is having a mod day April 12th. Head on over to CNFCGP.com and join and find some details.
You are more than Welcome to come out. It'll be at Merritt Island at one of the clubs founder's house.

The upper air deflector can be purchased from any GM dealer and it does help a little with cooling I believe the cost is around $20 also 72 chevman gives you some good advise .Chico(pops)

Thanks for all the good replies guys. I've already got the ratio suggested by 72chevman as well as the water wetter. That helped a lot, my cruising temps are a lot lower than before I made that change.

Anyone have a part nbr on that upper deflector? That's really cheap, might as well just get a new one.

The fans have never come on since I've owned the car, and the circuits seem ok based on the checking I've done. If I get stuck in traffic, especially in the summer, the temps will rise higher than I would like, so that's kind of where my questions were coming from. I've never had an overheat condition, but I sure would like to keep things as cool as practical w/o going overboard.

Thanks for the invite 20gtp02. I'll check out the website and see if I can make it there on the 12th. Nice to know there's a few more gear heads in my area who like Grand Prix beside me....

This car is my daily driver and it has been really really good to me, so I want to keep it maintained and see how many miles I can get out of it.

Are your fans coming on at all?

I would suggest flushing your cooling system installing a 180deg. thermostat and have your fans checked out if they are not coming on you will overheat in traffic, the deflector will help keep things a few deg. cooler on the hwy. but you need those fans in city traffic.Chico(pops)

To the best of my knowledge, the fans have never come on since I've owned the car (I bought it used). The cooling fans on my '89 TTA are fairly loud, so I just assumed the Grand Prix fans would also be loud. Maybe they are just really quiet.

I flush the cooling system myself once a year, usually in the spring. As a side note, I use a MityVac to suck out the old coolant, works really great. If you haven't used one of them, I highly recommend it, especially if you live in snow country and don't have a garage and want to change some fluids during bad weather.

The fans on the GP are quiet. I'd check to make sure your fans are working properly first. Also what temps are you hitting?

Thanks for the suggestion HercMan. I'll make it a point to check the fans next time the opportunity arises. My daily commute is on an interstate, so when I get stuck in traffic there, I don't feel too safe popping the hood for a quick 'sound' check.

I also need to pay closer attention to where the temps are really hitting. I want to say they are a little over 210, like maybe about 220. What happens is as soon as I come to a stop (like getting stuck in traffic) after a good 30 minutes of steady highway driving, the temp starts climbing slowly as I wait for traffic to start moving again. Temps of course drop after the car starts moving again.

What's the typical 'high' range for this kind of temp increase whens sitting in traffic? I have a '98 GT.
