ok so about a month ago my service engine light came on and i checked the for the code wit valvolines scanner(free) and the code that came up was P1404 and i called the bob tolkian buick pontiac gmc and they said its the PCM and it needs to be recalibrated...so today when i went to a local mechanic to get my tires rotated he asked me about the service engine light and if i knew the code...so i said yes its P1404...and i told him that i called the dealership and they said the PCM needs to be reclibrated..so then he was like lemme go check for u....so then he came back and was like i wouldnt trust the dealership if i was u cuz the part that needs to be replaced is the EGR valve and its gonna cost you 270 for the part and about 340 for everything...the guy knows went to school wit my dad so i dont think he'd rip me off but im not sure...but would i be able to replace that myself without having to spend $70 for labor? or should i just have him replace it

P1404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance

I got one off my 2002 that just came off the car. I can sell it to you for cheap. I deleted it so I didn't have the gases going into my engine again, plus the holes were filled. I am not sure if yours is broke or clogged, though.

Yep with the bracket around it. It's easy to replace: Repair info (Scroll down to Linear Valve Figures 22 and 23). You may need to have the PCM flashed as well.

If you need a PCM flash, sent me a PM. I've got a tuner but right now, the laptop isn't charged so just let me know ahead of time.
