My drivers side window is stuck about 4 inches down and it won't go up. I can here the motor in the door running then it stops like it is overloaded. I am wondering how hard it is to get the pannel off and what i will be able to see once I get it off. Anyone got any clues???

The door panel isn't hard to take off. A few screws and then some panel holders. Just be very careful when you take out the holders.

and I would be willing to bet you a beer that it needs a new regulator.

Regulator? Whats that? Does that regulate the current to the window motor? I thought the motor was week but then I thought it might seem that way because the window was dragging.

no, the regulator is what the motor attaches too, it helps pull the wieght of the window up and down, so the motor itself doesnt have all the force

yeah, GM doesn't seem to design the regulators very well (I thought it referred to a part that regulated the current, but it is actually that part that guides some wires up and down to hold the window up and down). The motors usually don't go, but the regulators do and they are usually sold as one part.

Get a new one on e-bay (I'll bet you this is your problem). $50 and it will do the trick. the GM part is something like $300 new and if you have the $tealership install it get ready for a good proctol examination if you get my drift. It isn't that bad to do yourself once you figure out how the mechanism works etc.. It took me a couple of hours to do the first one, now I could probably knock one out in about a half an hour to 45 minutes.

The screws are behind the door pull. You will need either a torx bit or an allen wrench.

Here's a pic of the window regulator and motor. For reference purposes the motor goes to the forward section of the door.

I took it all apart and saw that one cable was twisted and frayed. It was so twisted it would not allow the window to go up. so I cut it and pushed the window up by hand and put alittle tape around the slides so it would not be able to slide down.

I went to my local junk yard and found they did not have any on junk cars, but I asked if they could order one. I am pretty good family friends with the owners, I saw the price just for the regulator was about 75 bucks new, no motor. I got the part number and called the dealership 310 bucks now I don't know if that came with a motor or not I didn't ask. I then asked if he could give me the part number and he said no I said what? Then he said he does not give them out so I asked if he could verifiy my number then he said that my number was for a four door.

I then called autozone and they told me 315 bucks and verified that the number I had was the correct part number for a coup.

Why are dealerships like that??? @sswholes

I think I will check the price of one with a motor on it tomarrow from the yard. While I have it apart I may as well do it right.

Thanks for the help

I bought mine on Ebay for 150. Motor and regulator. That pic is the company I ordered from. I'd use them again.

Buy it on e-bay. I have the sedan which may be a cheaper part, but the price differential is pretty large and you end up with a new part that is actually designed better than the origional (in my opinion). For the sedan they can be had for as little as $50, but even $100 for a new part is much better than $300.
