So first off there are a few pics .. new sub and amp (kinda messy wiring) I found it to be a longer process than i expected it to be .. i didn't wire the amp power through the firewall rather through the passenger door (wire not being pinched) and under the hood where the washer fluid hose is .. works just fine. Also my windshield decal i've had for a few weeks now!

Now for my question .. My passenger door speaker just STOPPED working ? I'm not sure what it is .. first of i thought it was a bad speaker , i tried putting my stock ones back in and they did not work either !! I'm lost for words .. and music frown

Did it stop working before or after you installed the subs?

I JUST noticed it stopped today because i did a round check of everything after i installed the subs and amp and it was good to go .. i just re-did the wiring in my deck (used marretts instead of tape lol) and it wasn't working then .. im' boggled.

And i'm not sure what its equal to in us .. i think its around 61 ?

you ran your power wire through the door opening, and under the hood huh.

that is a total noobie thing, and it is not the right way to do it. But it sounds like you are OK with that.

I hope you have it fused under the hood, and not un-fused until right before the amp. Or maybe you didn't fuse it yet?

doing things sloppy and quick will net you those same end results...

00grandprixgt - indeed i do :p

And Jaybur .. i dont have it fused or hooked up at the moment because its not fused. I got a wiring kit that came with the amp and there is a wire i was confused about that is about 10" long and can screw into eachother at the ends and there is a fuse in the one end .. i'm not 100% sure waht this does or what its for so i stopped there.

If they screw into each other, then that is the fuse. It screws into your power wire. It should be red.

well please at least fuse it under the hood, that way when the coating on the wire starts wearing through and it touches a ground source (somewhere where your door or hood touches it) it will pop the fuse, and not start your car on fire, or make the battery explode.

I am not saying "don't do this yourself" but if you are questioning if something is right or not, maybe you should have someone help you in person that knows what they are doing.

although it may seem that stereo stuff is easy to do, there is still the potential to ruin your stereo by hooking a power wire to a speaker wire by accident.

a good example of this is when my friend had another buddy who claimed he could install the stereo in a 1991 olds toronado. Well he got it hooked up and as soon as they turned on the key, the instrument cluster quit working. $400 later, when a new cluster was put in he opted not to let the other guy install it.

I am not trying to discourage you, but you really need to look at what you are doing. taking shortcuts (like the amp wire through the door) may save some time getting it hooked up, but might cause other problems later on.

just my opinion of course
cheers

Ordonez .. by screwing onto my power wire , i'm slightly confused by that .. sorry for asking but i'm just not 100% sure on what i'm supposed to do here!

And Jaybuy : i am for sure going to fuse it under the hood! The kit came with a long line of thicker plastic tubing that is supposed to by used for outside wires , i dont see the coating wearing through anytime soon .. but you do have a good point. Hopefully i'll get this fuse on ASAP and be able to enjoy my latest purchase.

Routing through the door works fine for 8ga or smaller, I'll take some pics of my wiring some time, it does not look amateur and has been this way for a couple years, no wearing on the wires. As you say, if there were to be a problem, that is why the line is fused. smile

K here is the picture of the kit laid out from CDN Tire. The wire i'm talking about is the circle red one with the black connectors. Thats the one thats the fuse wire and i'm confused as to how to connect it.

thats a crappy kit, can you take some more detailed pics of the fuse holder? It looks like at a minimum, you will need to splice the short red wire and the long red wire together.

K here are a few pics of me holding it

as you can see them un-screwed .. the fuse sits in the bigger end.

hrm, thats very strange. it should go like this: battery -> ring terminal -> red wire -> fuse -> red wire -> amplifier.

That kit didn't come with any instructions? sorry, but a loop of wire with a fuse is not going to work... you need a straight piece with a fuse inline, so if you cut that loop in half, it'll work... but since its supposed to be a kit, you shouldn't need to do that.

WTF is that?

Is there a spot for a fuse inside of the black connectors?

There is no way for that to work... you are gonna have to splice it. It can't be its own separate loop.

Thats the point of it. Cut the wire and make it 2 pieces then wire it in.

that wire is pretty small too.

but yea, basically you are going to be cutting that "loop" and crimping on a ring terminal that will fit over your positive post above the fuse box. and you will have to get a "butt" connector to connect the other end of the fuse holder to the main long red wire.

crappy kit man. but if you have to make it work....

I'll throw this out there 1 more time, USE HEAT SHRINK CONNECTORS!!

lol, I woulda been confused too. that is just terrible, its a bundle of wires, not an amplifier wiring kit.

essentially yes thats what i got but.. thats all we have in Canadia unless you buy off ebay lol.

Regardless . it came with butt connectors and what not, i guess i'll give it a try, i mean i have nothing to loose but a bad wire.

What about buying this ?

http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443279589&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672459&bmUID=1228185523088

Seems like the power wire gets spliced into one end, and the remaining to the other end and to the +++ post?

I realize that is the point. But I think we can all agree that is terrible that someone markets that.
