I OWN A RARE 93 STE WITH THE 3.4 24V 210HP MOTOR, IS THIS TRULY A LOW MAINTENCE MOTOR? HOW IS THE POWER COMPARED TO THE NEWER ENGINES LIKE THE 3.8? LARINORIANI@NETSCAPE.NET

I had a 91 STE w/3.4 DOHC and IMHO the engine is a POS. I went thru 3 alternators because of not being able to protect them from the excesssive exposure to engine heat. Also had ongoing problems with injectors going bad. GM discontinued the engine because it was the most expensive engine built and VERY unreliabele

I agree with BobG on this. However to me the 3.4 feels like it has more GRUNT, the 3.8 is a lotta better motor. and more stuff readily available for it.

I had a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo ....with the 3.4L and hated it!! what a horrible car! i thought i would be great but sucked

I've heard mostly negative things concerning the DOHC 3.4L engine. From the mechanics I've spoken to, some won't even work on them anymore because they know that a month or two down the road, the car will be back in for service again.
