Well winter is coming closer and closer every day, and of course im starting my preparation quite early. I'm going to remove my lower grilles, put on the stock wheels/tires. Next im going to flush out my radiator and refill and then change the oil (it needs it) and make the hood completely functional. The one thing that is bothering me though is the spark plugs. Is a gap required for a 02 Grand Prix GT? Or are gaps just for GTP or how does this work? I'm going to be putting in Bosch Plantnium's and am just wondering how that works. Also should i be worried with my hood in winter of snow getting into the engine or is that not a problem?

I'm not looking forward for winter pretty soon. frown

Anyway, I would give her a good big wax all over this car body but not hood since you just got them like 2 weeks ago. It will help avoid some winter salt from rusty.

I think hood will be fine. Some of grand prix with aftermarket hood members drive snow before. I don't think it should be problem for you.

What must the gap be set at for the plugs in my car? The Bosch Platinum's Plus are what I got and they are stock gapped at .054in and i am trying to figure out what they all must be set at for my GT 3800 with powerlog and CAI...

that gap is fine.

Just use autolite plugs. they are cheap and work fine. For a stockish car like yours, go with the Autolite 605's gapped at .055 or so. The bigger the gap the better, but our cars sweet spot is between .050 and .060

I got the front spark plugs replaced. Made sure all gaps were at .054in and used anti corrosion stuff that my father recommended to make it easier next time to remove em and to help fight corrosion on the threads. Used an air gun to make sure no dirt, etc got into the cylinder. Overall the front were fairly easy had it done in around 30 mins but the back are going to be a different story. This has been my first time changing out the plugs and I gotta say its fun and also a good bonding experience if yah got urself a father who can help yah:) Tomorrow night im going to rock engine forward and do the back 3.

The plugs that were in there were 65,000 miles old. They were sitting at .062-.063 for the gap on those and were the stock AC Delco plugs. It looks like over time the gap widens so it seems to be a good thing to plan for.

The way I plan to do it, whenever I get around to doing my plugs, is to get one of those ratcheting tie downs and use it to pull the motor forward and then use a piece of wood as a shim to keep it there.

Or you could get one of these .

I just reach back there without any rocking.

One way to do it is to get a friend. disconnect the dogbones and start rocking the motor back and forth. When its as far forward as it can go have your friend push the e-brake down. the motor will stay forward

Don't forget to buy a couple jugs of the "good" washer fluid and have a set of spare wiper blades. The first nasty storm, and everyone is out of blades and fluid. I like the red stuff that is good to minus 30 for when driving in freezing mist. Also locate your scraper. I found this stuff made by prestone that you can spray on your windows when you know there is a heavy frost or light freezing rain. It will not freeze and come off very easy. I also spray my door locks with silicon spray as well as wipe my door seals with the same silicon which will help keep them from freezing shut. Once it gets really cold, I like to cover 1/2 my radiator with cardboard. The car warms up so much faster.

Things i've tried to get rear spark plugs out.

1. Tried pulling and twisting by hand, no success and even had my father try and help me.

2. Tried using pliers and a wrench to try and pry it out, no luck there the boot wouldnt budge.

3. Went and got spark plug boot removers from Oreily's, no luck there either and even tried to pry those out.

4. Tried twisting and turing and pulling in every direction and in just one direction. Tried wiggling it, etc aswell.

I'm very frustrated and not sure what to do at this point, is there any sort of advice that one can offer me to get those boots off?

Keep pulling. I hate to say it, because ive been there before. You just have to pull hard and twist.

Dont grab just the wire, grab where it is over the plug.

Twist, twist , twist.

If all else fails snap the plug in two.

Been doing everything you guys have said. I've tried lubricant as well and it will not budge. My arms are hurt and im going to have to wait on progressing and trying until i can work on it again. I dont think I have enough upper body strength to pull them out and i cant get a screwdriver under the rubber.
