I was coming home on RT 287 in Jersey behind my cousin in his new 5 series. I was dying to see if his ride was all that. I pulled up next to him and it was ON. I pulled in front of him fast and furious. He couldn't catch up. I let off the gas to let him catch up because I was going to his house before going home. He was amazed that the GTP was that fast. As I was leaving his house, I noticed an air filter box in his garage. I said, did you put a CAI in the Bimmer? he said yeah. I just went Hmmm. I said F you just as I was leaving with a big smile.

For the record, he has an M package V-8 with a 6 spd. It's not an actual M but it was an option to make it do something like an M. I have not driven his car but he drove mine on a rigorous test drive and he said that he thought that my GTP felt like it accelerated a bit stronger than his car. With every option, his car is pushing 4000lbs. As far as driving ability, my cousin is a Jersey State Trooper. I don't think there is any performance data on the GTP in any mag that tells how fast the GTP accelerates from 75 mph to 110. But side by side at 75 to 110, the GTP pulled ahead with authority and left no doubt that it was quicker. More refined or luxurious? No. Quicker? Yes. Handling? I wouldn't think so. It's also at least $20k more expensive. Would I trade him? Yes.

235rwhp 274rwtq. That's what a 540i sport M spec dyno's at. That's the model. It's rated at 290 hp before the rear wheels. It weighs 3800lbs. I don't know what the GTP's fwhp dyno's at. Maybe somebody that knows, can post it. 240hp at the flywheel. Just 50 less. But the GTP weighs 3384lbs. I run without a spare or jack, but I have two cans of fix a flat. I find it odd that someone says they drove a CAMARO 170mph and nobody finds anything stange about that. I say my GRAND PRIX out-accelerated a BMW from 75 to about 110mph and I am called out on it. This is a GRAND PRIX support group after all. Come on Grand Prixers, how about some support. And somebody that has made 4 posts since May should wait at least until their 20th post before swearing. Here is somebody's BMW page for reference. http://www.texasfeldmans.com/pages/stuart/540i.htm#dyno

The wagon only weighs 3726 and the sedan a svelt 3450 dont know where you got your numbers from by looking at that link above Id say even the 4.4L 8 will be a challenge let alone the M spec 4.9L So either your friend cant drive or he let your head get big

Here's another link from Car and Driver. Look at the 03 sedan info, then just beneath it is the wagon info. An M spec is not an M5 and does not have the 394 hp engine. By the way, please sell your GP and buy the Bimmer. It's ok. Then you can tell everyone how much faster it is than your last car.
