Herc, Sleeper does not mean regression! most want to revamp the body to show off what little work they have done to the engine bay. I have kept the original exterior with not additions except the Speed Grills. Had a mechanic buddy who was deep into swapping massive power into smaller cars. Granted GTP is not small, but I am sure someone one day will drop a V8 and a bigger tranny and squeeze major horse out of it. There was a bonneville that was tested on the Flats with over 600HP.

The definition of sleeper is something that looks mundane like the 97 SE but performs way beyond any expectations. Granted most sleepers are cars that were never designed or originally meant for performance but daily toiling on the highways and byways. I wouldnt call a V-8 GTP a sleeper since GTPs are supposed to be aggresive to begin with or a BB Camaro.

Actually as he said..it wasnt an M series..and I can vouch .. Ive raped a couple mighty V12 variety (Ahem..lots of power..too much weight) BMWs. If it was a regular 5 series... Even at the most potent HP level..the GTP still has advantage...flat trq curve and no where near the weight. Seems BMW should put a few cars on diets. :p

For sake of argument.. BMW 2004 545i Stats
"The M45 does 0-60 in 5.7 sec. and 1/4 in 14.3 sec. " I imagine the M6 wouldnt have a whole lot more over the M45. Maybe high 13s?

Yeah .. the best sleeper cars are Old Mustangs (The ones that used to have the 289 and now some crazy buildup is tucked away under the hood), Usually anything from the 80s. LMAO.. even a built Corvette is a sleeper..cuz the C4 cars were pathetic! GNs = notorious sleepers, olds cutlass cars, etc...

Do you guys read Hot Rod? They had a Chevette with a BIG caddy motor stuffed in it and ran 12's. That's a sleeper.

no way a vette can be a sleeper. The average Joe would see "corvette" and say to himself thats a fast car. Even the pathetic mid 70s to late 80s vettes might have been pathetic but look at all the other pathetic ehhmmm "muscle cars" NOT of that time frame. A stock 85 vette would still own a stock 85 Z-28. Sleepers have to be something along the lines of a Grocery getter, cookie cutter styled car. A good chevy sleeper woulda been the late 80s Caprice Classics.

Station wagons make the best sleepers.

In about 88 when I had a Mustang resto business, I was filling up my 67 at a gas station. This older black guy wanted to race me for the title. He was driving a 4 door Chrysler boat. My Stang had a heavily worked 351 Cleveland and probobly could've run low twelves on street tires. I declined the challenge. That guy had just too much huztba with that giant 4 door to not worry. A sleeper?

you dont build a sleeper to fool the general public. Hell a Stock GTP would qualify once you took off the badge (general public doesnt know they are fast.) You build a sleepter to fool those who do know wink
