I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT & occasionally the "ABS" light along with the "TRAC OFF" light will come on. After turning the engine off it usually stays off for a while again. It is very sporadic & I know if I took it to a repair shop it wouldn't do it for them. The car seems to drive fine but this is the car that my 16 year old son drives & it bothers me to possibly have something wrong with th brakes. Has anyone experienced this & have any solutions for me.

jack the car up and check the wheels for a bad wheelbearing, once you get the car jacked up grab the wheel at 12 and 6 and rock it at 12/6 if you have play in a wheel then its a bad wheel bearing, that happened to me, it would come on and off until finely the ABS light came on and stayed on until i replaced the bearing

check the wires going to the hub. You may have a bad wire.

It's very possible that it is just a bad wheel hub speed sensor.

Do what 4drgt suggested to test for a bad hub first. If there is no play in any of them then clean the connections and try that.

It may be beyond repair and you'd be best to take it to a dealership for them to determine which hub it is.

There is a way to test them with a voltmeter to see what hub is bad but i'm not sure of how to do it.

I've just dealt with mine doing this for the last year, it's just annoying at slow speeds since you have no power steering.

Mine does what the OP's does. I have yet to notice any outage with my power steering when the TCS/ABS lights are on.

Really? Hmm, maybe it is only on 97's since we used different DENSO wheel sensors that made the GTP's have no Trac Control. I'm not sure on why the power steering gets cut when the ABS light comes on and i've never found a definite answer.

I have same problem. It was HUB bearing speed sensor. Dealership replace mine last year but everyone have many different random problems fixed like replace bearing, speed sensor or whatever. I don't have light on anymore since then. Try go Auto Zone to find where code came from. I'm sure it wil be helpful. It is free too.

the speed sensor is part of the hub so to replace the sensor you are replacing the hub as well.

It is most likely a hub rather than the EBTCM unit itself.

Ahh I see. The dealership's paper part was show speed sensor only so I didn't know it was whole thing.

My car currently has the same problem, however it is not constant. Every so often I will start my car and the light will be on along with the traction control constantly off. The car will still drive fine, then when I turn it off and start it again later everything is back to normal. Weird...

I would bet that the wire coming off the bottom of your wheel bearing is breaking. Sometimes it makes contact and everything works, and when it doesn't make contact it shuts off your abs and traction control.

The simple fix is to buy a new wheel bearing like I did. When I took mine off I could see that the wire had simply broken off, and could probably have been fixed with solder. So if you want to save money and think this is something you can handle, maybe its worth a try.

The way to test the sensor is to unplug the harness and hook the sensor up to a volt meter. While it is hooked up have someone spin the wheel and you should get a reading on your meter. If you dont get a reading, then the sensor is bad.

Have the meter set for millivolts. The sensor is a generator.

Magnasteer... ABS, TCS, AC and Magnasteer all run off the same fuse. I lose all of this when I pull the #28 fuse while racing.
If you think your PS is acting up while these lights are on it may be a fuse, or loose connection in the fuse block.

Mine isn't constant either. It is doing exactly what yours is doing.

I have my ABS, TCS, and TRAC light off light on. I also have a whine noise when I steer my 2003 GTP. Is my power steering going/gone?
