The resonated tips helps keep down the drone inside your car (exhaust noise) when you start to modify your exhaust system. Usually people get them when they get aftermarket muffs or when a new D/P goes on along with a ubend and resonator delete. There is also a resonator right after the ubend, that helps keep down some drone. Depending on your exhaust setup, you shall keep in or take out the resonator, and same thing with the tips, buy some or don't buy some resonated tips. All depends on your setup and how tolerant you are to this drone inside your car.

Many people complain the exhaust note is a bit too raspy with the resonator gone. I heard it on a N/A GT and I tend to agree.

dont get me started on the woes of N/A GT exhaust (droning, raspy, etc...)...just keep in mind that the 3.8 will NEVER rumble like a V8 and no muffler/resonator on the planet will make it so...that isnt to say it will sound bad, but a V6 has an angry bumblebee exhaust by its very nature and design...you draw a very fine line between flow and sound...in this case louder is not always better and you window glass and tooth fillings will thank you. This engine needs a chambered muffler somewhere in the system or it will be hard to live with...only you know what your ears can stand...good luck. cool

i dont have the resonator. i dont think its bad. I had it, and then took it out. There wasnt really that much of a difference.

Those people who have the resonator out and dont mind probably have some kind of chambered muff out back...and most likely a stock cat...I have been astounded at how much louder my car has been since installing the hi-flow cat...those that have deleted the cat know what I'm talking about.

If you go with a resonated tip I think it will probably help with a raspy exhaust note but they wont quiet things much...muffler choice is much more important.

i had the res out before I did my top swap and i loved how the exhaust sounded. ever since I slapped that SC on though I've not been happy with my exhaust (unless the car is at idle though!)

Resonated tips will quite down the exhaust tone just a bit, kinda like a mini muffler at the end of your exhaust tips.
Example... Flow Master 50 series shouldn't require the use of any resonated tips. 50 Series muff are quite.
40 Series muffs may require the use of resonated tips due to the loudness of the 40 series.

I had regular straight tips when I had my 40's installed. The drone was so bad at highway speeds my brain would vibrate, I had really thought I made a huge mistake on my exhaust. I've always used F/M 40 series, but that was always on V8's. This was the first non-V8 that I installed a set of F/M 40's on. Not really wanting to spend the money to buy a new set of F/M 50's, I decided to try a set of resonated tips. They made all the difference in the world. They quited down the tone just enough to eliminate the cabin drone and my brain doesn't vibrate when I go on road trips.

I have 99 GT with a 2.5 pipe from the cat to the stock y and no mufflers and it sounds sweet once its warm and only rasps in first gear when you let off the gas to fast, so I dont. And I have the car gutted from the front seats back so the drone is crazy!!! LOL!!! I made an axle back with dual glass-packed mufflers to dual dual glass-packed tips that I can remove at the track and there is 0 rasp any time. The drone is still there a bit but not near as bad mostly cuz the car is gutted. And if I put another glass pack where the res was there would be no drone. I noticed that drone is also allot less the farther the tips are sticking out of the car but it looks like ass so I settled for 1 inch out.

I'm no expert, just curious and this is what I found while I was playing with the exaust. laugh
