Am looking at installin XP cam, 105 springs, PCM, CAI, and a 3.4" Pulley. I have the manifold back exhaust. My question is will I run ok with out headers? I really want to get them on! but will not be able to buy them till next year.
Anyone run same set-up without headers?? How does it run?? Get lots of Knock?

The cam should allow you to run smaller than a 3.4. No way of telling without scanning. But you would definitely be safe without headers with that setup.

I disagree. I ran my XP setup for two days with PEM's. When I put on my headers, I noticed very nice gains. Remember, the XP has a high exhaust duration, and you're gonna need a way to get all that hot exhaust out of the combustion chamber in order to prevent hotspots (which can create KR).

So I guess you can run with stock exhaust manifolds, but you will not see the true potential of the cam without getting a better flowing exhaust setup.

i wouldnt but you can if you want... hey drummer the s&s headers are working fine did u move the one sensor or leave it alone? did you go with the s&s cause of money? or are they better then togs?

No, you can put the cam in and you'll be fine. I'm only saying you won't get the full potential of the cam unless you open up that car's exhaust to let it breathe out better. You might try buying ZZP's powerlog and 3" D/P. That would sure help, but headers are ideal.

You're in for a fun time installing that cam. Hope you're pretty mechanical!

I bought the S&S headers because a local club member had them for sale for cheap.

They are working well, except I have a leak at the crossover flange.

Now when u sayin DP u mean off the manifold right! Cause I am installin new exhaust manifold back. What size pulley u guys recommend it I puttin in the XP cam??
How many RPMs then u get Peak boost?

I would imagine you could run a 3.3 or so with stock exhaust manifolds, and if you got headers, you could probably drop to a 3.2, every car is different so you will just have to scan and tune.

IIRC the XP cam makes peak power at 6100-6200 rpms. ZZP recommends setting the shift points at 6400 and the rev limiters at 6800.

This isn't a turbo. Peak power from the S/C is always available. That's one beni of a S/C over a turbo.

As for boost numbers it depends on many variables. Don't worry so much about how much psi it's putting out but how much volume your getting in and out.

I was under the understanding that the smaller pulley just helps the SC achieve boost faster

Smaller pulley increases boost, but doesn't help it faster.

When you hammer the gas, you have full boost.

I've noticed from scanning a few GTPs there actually is about a 1-2 psi difference from low rpm to high rpm. But yeah essentially you are getting almost full boost right away, regardless of RPM.

Many turbos, especially smaller ones, reach their max boost and sit there, too. Depends on the setup, and of course theres a lag.

What do you mean when you say you are installing a new exhaust manifold back. Does that mean you are replacing the manifolds? or going with just a 3" DP after the manifolds? or do you have a set of PEMS?

I am instalin after Manifolds so just a 3" DP and 3" back to the Y then steppin down to 2.5"
