Nice to see it without the cladding (the stuff that covers the car in spy shots). I see they went old school pontiac style with the shape of the grills (if they pulled out the nose a few inches). Any mechanical info on it?

GXP Boosts Grand Prix Profile
Pontiac's effort to boost the performance image of all its vehicles visits the Grand Prix next. The mid-size four-door will inherit a version of GM's 5.3-liter V-8, re-engineered for front-drive use, in the new Grand Prix GXP. In this installation it makes 290 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The GXP also gets 12 percent better fuel economy than it would without Pontiac's first use of Displacement on Demand, technology that shuts off a bank of cylinders under light driving loads. Pontiac pegs the 0-60 time for the GXP at roughly 6 seconds. New styling tweaks, including new front and rear fascias, 18-inch wheels, and new interior trim distinguish the model, for which pricing hasn't been announced. Sales begin in the first quarter of 2005.

Wow! Nice looks and a great "personality" Hopefully they'll keep the price reasonable, or else that beast will just sit on a lot, getting lots of looks but no sales.

Honeslty Herc -- It seems to me the GOAT has the same rear room as the 04+ GP. Other than the 4 doors - it is just as roomy

Im shocked. 290 HP comming from 5.3 V8??? The torque I can live with but only 290 HP? It could have went past the 300 mark at least. If the GTO has this styling, I would get the Goat. Guess I'll just wait until the styling for it changes.

The GTO wins in the interior, for me.

Me too --- oh wait my 3year old does climb in -- he plays like he is a Commando getting into a stealth car and as you can see from the pics the interior room is about the same... This is why I love my GOAT -- true 2x2 seating unlike the T/A,Camaro,Rustang or even the G35 coupe which I have terrorized more than once.

I saw the pic first on gminsidenews.com - I agree that it should be more than 290 hp and less than "roughly 6 seconds" in the 0-60. With a little modding we can get below that already. Since this baby's got a V8 under the hood, they should easily be able to get her in the mid to high 5's.
IMO though...

Yea the styling is really good but I wouldn't buy it.
I mean there are some 3.x natually aspired stock V6s that can hit these numbers. And the engine is relatively huge 5.3 liters and this is the best it can get?? This is slightly depressing. How is it going to compete? Loyalists may start to churn away after a few years.
No replacement for displacement? Try no substitution for engineering evolution.
Also in general, I prefer FWD but V8 FWD seems odd.

yeah that bonneville gxp is a nice looking vehicle also, even though i cannot afford to buy a bonny the fact that the gxp comes with a v-8 (northstar) that so far i have not heard of any motor mods to make her a true go-go bonny i would be kinda shy to make a purchase.

the tailend of the 04's isnt the same as the grand prix's i grew up with. its just not the gp look. the front end i can deal with but not the tail end. they need to keep to the old school from 97 to 03 tail ends!!!

I believe they changed the tail end to update it to the new trend of styling i.e. High end.
It seems most manufactures are just following the Altima's styling.

Well it is not just the styling... the trunk opening is a lot bigger on the 04 than the previous gen.
But yes all manufactuers follow what is hot - all of them!

I personally after buying my 04 would NOT go back to my 98. I like everything so much more on this car than my old one. There is to much to even mention here. Now only if it had some wheels.......maybe this month ahh well.

So does this thing still use the 4T65-E tranny? It should have a 5 speed slushbox by now. Besides, if the 4T65-E could already barely handle the 280 pound feet of torque from the blown V6, how's it going to handle the V8?
