Sounds like you have a project. I've always wanted to ask this to anyone but never did, I do like most of the GPs that are running with Billets, but why do people get them if the enemy car (mustang) comes with them?

To me they arent the "enemy"...its just a different car... but mostly they remind me of the classic Cragar S/S wheel...it just so happens that Ford has offered them as a factory option, which doesnt come as a shock since Ford has been leading the charge when it comes to "retro"...I'm just glad they fit our cars cuz I like my wheels better then any other mod I've added to the car.

I've been thinking very strongly about getting a set of those lights and taping them off in a striped style somewhat similar to the stock tails...then shooting them with niteshades which should yield a very smooth look...then I can wire up some sequential turn signals cool ...but that will be later after I finish this mountain of mods I have going already (I have a bad scar from a mod bug bite...so does my checking account lol )

They are actually copies of an old rim caled the "Torque Thrust", the crager SS's were a bit differant, but similar none the less

I thought that the Torque Thrust wheels were made nowadays by American Racing, and were inspired by the Cragar S/S's

Torque Thrust "M":

"Bullitt":

Crager "SS":

Crager "SS" rims have been around since the 50's believe it or not.
All three wheels are very similar in shape, but are all made by differant comapnies so no one company will admit if they copied the other.
I guess you could say they are copies of either the Torque Thrust or the Crager SS. I just always felt they looked more like the Thrusts than the SS's personally.
(I actually owned a set of 1960's magnesium Torque Thrusts at one point on my 1980 Grand Prix (had a 301 V8...slow as hell!), those rims weighed in about 2lb each. Had a set of 14x7 for the fronts and a set of 14x10's in the back with some crazy 11" wide slicks I found at a garage sale for $5.00 each!. I had to put washers behind the rim so the tires wouldn't rub, LOL..oh the stupid things we do as kids smile I ended up selling them for a lousy $75.00...sigh, could probably get $500.00 or more these days for them)

"American Racing Equipment has re-introduced the original straight-spoke version of the Torq Thrust, the most recognized wheel in automotive history and an icon of vintage and muscle cars. Originally offered in magnesium in the early sixties, the Torq Thrust’s straight spoke silhouette, hailing from American Racing’s drag racing heritage, quickly became the most sought after design of its time."

I am still wondering though, will 245/40/18's make enough of a differance compared to 245/45/18's in tire height/speedometer calibration??

Yes, it will, the sidewall will only be 40% of the width of the tire as opposed to 45%. Thus a smaller tire diameter, and circumference, means more revolutions per minute.

There are sites that determine exact amounts but your speedo will be off, but if you want it to be exactly accurate, you will probably have to have your speedo recalibrated using a Powrtuner or a Mini-SRC from ZZP. Usually it'll be fast by 2-7%

Use this site to calculate. Its pretty damn close, but not as close as DHPs excel sheet for calibration via tuner. But pretty close.

For $1900, you'd better have a built L67 with an XP cam and GenV blower on the way
