Alright, for the last week and a half, I've smelled what I'm pretty sure is burnt coolant coming from my engine bay after I park my car.

My coolant level has barely dropped if at all, my oil looks good, and the coolant in the overflow and radiator looks good. No darkness or burntness. I also checked the overflow jug and does not have bubbles in it. I'm not dripping anything in my garage. I can't really tell exactly where its coming from! If I had to guess, I would say either the front or pulley side of the engine. Don't think its coming from the radiator.
The exhaust has got to be burning it somehow for it to smell like it does. Can't find where.

Anybody shed some light on this?
Thanks
-Bill

By the sounds of it the source maybe one of your heater hoses leaking on your rear ex. mnfld or possibly a waterpump leak .Chico.

The 99 gtp I been working on had a leak somewhere but no proof. After doing the rear valve cover gasket I replaced the coolant els and think that is where is was leaking and burning up.

i found my leak was due to the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing

Its dry around that. Still haven't been able to pinpoint it. I'm planning on doing some water pump investigating after my finals are done with.

Anyone here change a water pump?

More times than I care to remember, and the 3800's were among the easier ones... wink Get some liquid teflon for the bolt threads, when installing the new pump.

I had problems last winter with my throttle body coolant hoses leaking on my crossover heat shield.

The hoses for the heater core are in the back of the engine, and run up to a housing. I was able to replace both of mine when I pulled the engine. The old ones started to swell, your might have sprung a leak. It is poosible however that some of the plastic elbows my have cracked; those are under a lot of stuff. Also it could be the return(?) line from the radiator.

I'd say it's more than likely the water pump. I had that same smell in my '98 for about 6 months before i found out what it was.

I had the coolant flushed and that caused the water pump to go ahead and really start leaking.
