Hello, I'm a newbie. I'm looking to buy a 2000 GT. I have my eyes on several in my area. they all have about 40K - 45K miles. The engine compartment is spick and span. They have theri noraml wear and tear like minor scuffs on the exterior. Are there anything thing i need to check with the 2000s? Didnt know if there were any problems mechanically? They are also priced about the same - $12,500. Also are there plenty of upgrades? thanks

Hello,

Check all the windows, make sure they all go up and down, with both switches.
Make sure the wipers work.
Check the trunk for leaks if it has a spoiler.
And with any car, look at all the vitals. If the tranny fluid looks burnt...bad sign. Same w/ the motor oil, open the fill cap and see if there's any build up on the lifters, or around them.
That's all I can think of right now.

Later now,

is that a common problem with the spoilers?(leaking)

I know when my parents owned a 99 GT they had problems with the tranny. It started shifting real funny of course right after the warranty ran out so they traded it off. thanks for the tips

My Grand Am GT is beginning to make some funny tranny shifts. So I'm thinking of trading it in for a 2003 GP GT. The sticker is $27K, but I can get a $4500 rebate and the GM Supplier discount, getting the price under $20K.

But if it will have tranny problems too.....

Is there a way to tell what repairs were done during the warranty period? Just curious to see about a car before i buy. that could tell if the cars is worth buying. i know about carfax but that wont tell me if the Alt. has been replaced 12x or the tranny repaired 3x.

Hello,

I don't know how cooperative they would be, but, the dealers have access to that kind of information. If you can give them the VIN, they can tell you what kind of warranty work was done.

Later now,
Clint

Don't forget the carfax report it's a very good thing to get when buying used. The dealer should get you one for free.

The dealer got in another 2000 GT. Its white with 43K miles, all power, trip computer cluster, and gold package, polished rims. They are gonna sell it to me for $12,300. I talked to another Grand Prixer and he said thats too high. But every 2000GT i looked in my town are all the same price of around $12k. Even KBB.com shows that price. What do you guys think?

I traded my 2000 GT (~30k miles) in to the dealer last month towards my new '04 and they gave me $16k CDN for it (works out to ~$11,700 US). Factor in they'll want to make something off it and the prices you've quoted aren't very far off the mark...

OK i got it. Its in excellent shape. The hi-polished wheels have a touch of gold in them. So now i need some ideas on parts. I have seen some grill inserts and also the decal kit that you put in the 'grand prix' on the rear bumper that i would like to start off with. On the decal kit now sure if i should go with black or gold. Also i removed the K&N air intake kit from my blazer. Its the kit that goes from the throttle boody to the cone filter with the block-off plate that separates the filter from the engine compartment. I wonder if i could fab that into my Grand Prix???
Are there any catalogs out? i found a Pontiac catalog but didnt have any grand prixs just firebirds. Some one give me some ideas plus sites to for parts. thanks
