Would a 97-03 CAI be able to be fabricated into a grand prix 04 comp g? I really don't want to spend money on getting a CAI again and fabricating would save me money. I already have K&N Heat sheild, 9" Filter.

If the CAI heat sheild couldn't be fabricated in could I at least run a HAI using the pipe and the filter since I have the K&N Pipe?

Just make a HAI from Home Depot similar to the way you would for a 97-03.

Ya I know I could do it that way but do you think I could use the heat shield by finding a way to mount it? The area seems similar and maybe I could squeeze the heat shield in there so it'd look clean and the filter would have a place to sit.

If it doesn't fit, then just cut it down to size.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll have to see what I can do to get it in, i want to run my 9" filter much like I did in the GT, i loved the sound it made, except this time it will be a whine:D. If I do do this I will make a write up for gpnet.

To me it looks like there is an actual section in the pipe that holds the IAT sensor in and can be removed. If I removed the section with IAT and put my K&N 97-03 K&N CAI pipe in there would I then be able to make myself a nice HAI w/ a 9" cone or even possibly fit it into the heat shield I have?

Maybe just finding a long pipe like at Oreilys or an auto part store and routing it to my fender would be the best route?

You can make it work with a little fab work you would need a couple of silicone sleaves and probaby have to cut the tube .but why bother just sell the K&N you have and buy the right one that fits because honestly if you have to ask how to fit the 97-03 kit in you do'nt have the necessary fabrication skills to make it work and do'nt bother with a write up if you try because frankly any one buying a K&N FIPK for a 04+ is going to buy the right one.Chico(pops)

True, since I'm getting 5k back on the car and we already made an agreement on price because I listed K&N CAI in the list of things that are on it to be fair.

The Powerlog and 3" DP will go on my Comp G hopefully saturday night and I will get a tube to create a HAI. I may take the K&N 9" Filter off and use it on my comp g and go buy a cheap one for the GT.

So that way I will have 3" downpipe and power log with HAI for first mods after first day I got it:D

I now have a top swap for sale (all hard parts), so theres money for K&N CAI.

Careful modding when you have a warranty incase it voids it and that might come back to bite you in the rear down the line

Well I had the 02 GT modded and it was covered for roughly 70k miles.

However I think I will have this car around a bit longer so I'm thinking about not modding it or just doing small mods, but then again I'll be back on here in several months saying I want this and that...mod bug sucks.

The cure for any warranty is to keep to original parts and swap them when you go in for work. With little mods like a plog and dp its and easy swap but you should be fine.

The only issue you could have is the cat. It is illegal under federal law to swap out a working cat with under 80K miles on it.
http://www.catalyticconverter.org/law/index.htm

About modding:

Vehicle owners are protected by federal law: the Magnuson-Moss Warranty- Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975.
Under this act, aftermarket equipment (which usually improves performance) does not void a vehicles manufacturers warranty. The only exception to this act is if the the warranty clearly and conspicously states that that the aftermarket equipment voids the warranty. Most states have warranty statues, as well. These provide more protection for the owners.

A dealership/service department most prove –not just say- the aftermarket equipment caused the need for the repair before they can deny warranty coverage on that basis.

So even if the Comp G is not above 80k mileage warranty from factory it is illegal to change out the catalytic converter?

If so I had no idea about this and I'm glad you brought it to my attention.

if your talking about the sensor rite behind the air box that looks like the MAF,and you dont want to attach the filter directly to the maf.

If I run a HAI or K&N CAI + colder spark plugs, and a colder tstat w/ plog and downpipe could I run a 3.6 pulley w/ little to no knock on a 04 Comp G?
