Hi. I just bought a 1998 GTP and have little money. I want to know what people think I should do.

FlowMasters New Computer Chip
Shorter Supercharger Pulley
Cold Air Intake
LS6 Valvesprings
3800SC Stage 1/2/3/4/5/6 Performance Package (will save up for this)

Search for 3800SC Stage 1 Performance Package on google.com to see what the package includes and the price.

Select Thermostat Temperature: 160 degree
Select Cold Air Induction System: MotorSports Performance Cold Air Induction System (add $45.00) $45.00
Select Exhaust System: SLP "Loudmouth" Exhaust System with dual/dual tips (add $120.00) $120.00
Add the SLP Headers Installation Kit: Yes (add $80.99) $80.99
SLP Headers Downpipe Selection: Add the SLP High-Flow Cat (add $179.99 with free S/H) $179.99
Select Pulley Setup: Modular Pulley System (add $75.00) $75.00
Select Pulley Size: 3.0" Pulley
Select Pulley Puller Option: Rent the Puller (add $135.00 to total - $35 to rent, with $100.00 refundable core charge) $135.00
Coolant Bottle and
F-Duct Option
(for 1997-98 owners): No Thanks
Enter Full Name for Disclaimer: Test Price
Your Model and Year: 1998 Grand Prix GTP
PCM Core Charge Selection: I will return my core - Add $100.00 refundable core charge $100.00
Add IAT Extension: Yes (add $20.00) $20.00
Select Cone Filter Option: Optional PowerStack (add $11.00)

$3,206.97 for the best of the best.

I think I should go with the Stage 6 package but I will have to save a lot and pay someone to install it all.

Any suggestions?

I'd say buy stuff individually, and do the work yourself. You will learn so much about your car, how it works, how to maintain, how to enhance, etc etc.. and best of all, every time you install a part, you have a sense of pride, because you can say, "I did this myself!!" Whereas with the package that someone else installs, it will feel as though you have a completely different car when it's all said and done, with not alot of fun to show for it!

Just my $.02 worth (it's not alot!) laugh

I agree with drummerboy.

And if you are going to do it yourself don't start with the mods on your list.

Start by making your own CAI. You'll save $200 and it will work just as good, or better.

Delete the Ubend.

Get a reprogrammed PCM.

Do those three things and you'll have a good start for..um maybe under $250

Yes. You can build your CAI with parts from home depot, a K&N filter, and cardboard. The only tools you need a screwdriver and scissors.

For the ubend you'll need a shop to cut and weld your exhaust.

The PCM requires a small ratchet.

Yeah don't pay attention to anything except the forums and reliable 3800 vendor sites ( www.zzperformance.com a good one).

I don't know what "flowmasters new computer chip is" but don't do it. The only choice is a reprogrammed PCM like UMfan mentioned. Get it from the website I linked. LS6 valvesprings will be a waste at this point in the game. The supercharger pulley can only be done after you have 'supporting mods' in place. This is very important otherwise you can easily damage the engine. Supporting mods will allow the engine to breath and fart easier. Theres something called knock retard (KR) often talked about and is very important to watch on these engines. I would invest in a scanner to keep on eye on this. You can learn about KR in the tech articles on zzperformance.com
Enjoy and ask questions before you do anything! devilgrin

Just get a full-size intercooler, 3" off-road pipe, N* TB, ported blower and be done with it.

I can't believe that an IC isn't even listed on your original post for "stage 6" or whatever. With no IC, or no aftermarket cam, you won't be running a 3.0" pulley w/out blowing up.

In any case, I say get an IC before anything else.

Let me clear up the stage 6 too.

* Comp Cams custom cam and upgraded Comp Cam valvetrain components
* Thrasher Transmission Shift Kit
* SLP Performance Parts Coated Exhaust Headers with 3 different downpipe options
* PRJ Performance Ignition Wires
* DynoMax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust System with the option to upgrade to the SLP “Loudmouth” Exhaust System
* Digital Horsepower Inc. customized PCM. (click here to read product information and the Disclaimer you must agree to.)
* your choice of either a 3.4”, 3.25”, or 3.0” pulley
* your choice of either a Press-On Pulley or the upgraded Thrasher Modular Pulley System
* Thrasher Cold Air Induction Kit with the option to upgrade to the MSP Cold Air Induction System
* Goodyear Gatorback Supercharger Belt
* 160-degree or 180-degree SLP Performance Parts Thermostat
* Optional Coolant Recovery Bottle for 1997-1998 owners
* Optional Intake F-duct for 1997-1998 owners upgrading to the MSP CAI System
* Optional Thrasher Supercharger Pulley Puller Tool for Rental or Purchase

That's what it comes with. But I do think going cheaper is better. Making my own CAI is something I never thought of. Thanks for reminding me. I was talking about a reprogrammed PCM. Wrong wording on my part. I was planning on deleting the U-Bend too. That was one of the cheap main fixes I wanted to do. Thanks for all the advice everyone. More advice is still fine too.

Don't think its worth 3200.
That stage 6 can be done yourself cheaper:
$300 cam
$700 headers
$500 custom exhaust
$100 modular pulley system (zzp sale)
$100 PCM
$10 DIY shift kit parts
$50 DIY intake parts
$200 wires, belts, t-stat

I think that covers everything. It comes to under $2000; $1200 less.

$300 for a cam!? Don't forget the installation kit, stiffer valve springs, new timing chain, and the fact that he'll have to pay someone to install it as he can't do it himself. I say do an intercooler first, then see how you like the power gain and decide if you want to mod more. Forget all that "Stage X" crap, it's BS.

It's not like I can't install it myself, it's not having the tools for it. But yeah, I'll just make my own CAI, and do some cheap stuff.

I figured out my first 3 mods.

First is to build my own CAI.
Next, is FlowMasters.
Then the reprogrammed PCM.

Does anyone know what inlet size to choose for a 1998 GTP? Is it 2.25 or 2.5?

Also, does anyone know if the Universal Super 40 Series is too loud and if I should go with the 40 Delta instead?
