I the 40th anniversary came out on 02. The styling and options are identical, the only thing different is the center caps and obviously the available colors. You could only get the 40th anniversary in cherry black if i'm not mistaken

Not to correct you, but, The color is actually called Dark Cherry Metallic. See my sig. RJOJR-Have you done anything to it? I'm looking for ideas for my 40th.

PDM, you are correct I knew it was a special cherry something. Other than the addition of the stripes and removing all the Grand Prix logos the only mods have been mechanical; i.e.Thrasher CAI, Hi Flow Cat/downpipe, Corsa Exhaust, I went throught dynomax, magnaflow, and flowmasters before I finally got tired of the drone and went with the Corsa, all in all I should have paid for it in the first place. I would reccomend it if you want a mean sound without the interior noise. I did find some old original 67-68 GP fender logos that I am putting on the front quarter panels try to give a little retro look to the new styling. Ill post some pics as soon as its done. BTW I tried to open your pics and it says I need a password.

Being that they are actually a functional piece I dint think you can really do anything to them. I did have full length rally stripes like the old Trans Am at one time, but I took the air vents off and placed them on top of the stripes just to set them off a bit

The Special Edition and the 40th Anniversary addition are different!

The 40th came in that one color only and had 40th edition stuff all over it. Seats, badges, blah blah blah.

The Special Edition looks like the 40th, but it does NOT come in dark cherry metallic. No other 97-03 GP came in DCM except the 40th. Well, unless you got yours painted afterwards. :p

The Special Edition is just that. A special edition. Special Edition badges, heat extractors and a different spoiler. I've seen both the 40th and the Special Edition spoilers on Special Editions, though .. There's another 2002 Special Edition GT on here, if you search for it. You'll see the different between the spoilers.

I don't know about the interior of the Special Editions.

the interior on the SP. Eds was black and Gray leather seating, with the rest of the interior Graphite, IIRC

Those 40th cherry metallic GP's are like flies on sh*t around here. They are the most common GP's around, can't get away from the damn things... they are alright but because there are so many, they aren't special to me.
