Well I never thought I could do it but with some mods and a good tune it has been. I beat a GTP, yea guys my GT beat a GTP w/ a gutted air box. I was dirveing last night and I pull up too the light and some POS pulls up next to me in a Silver GTP and startes revin his engine. I look at him and laugh b/c him and I both know that I can't beat him but I truned around and so not to be the baby out of this I do the same. He exchanges a few words sayin "You know I have a Supercharger right?" I was like yea now shit, but I don't need one" The lighted turned green and we both guned it. it was newly paved roads so neither of us spun it was a perfect jump. I look over ans see this kid smiling so I put the rest of it to the floor and my car it seconded gear and see yea I was out. There was a nohter light down the road that I beat him too I beat him but about half car. We stoped ont he side of the raod after and exchanged a few more words, him telling me he was giveing all it had and I still beat him. he had a guted air box in the car with a k&n cone filter on it.
So after that I went to a abondoned air strip near my house and got out my freiends practice tree that does 1/4 mile times and I pulled off a 14.9 with the intake temp being 70* and when I racied the kid I had a intake temp of 40*.(as soon as next season starts again I'm going to go to the track and get some real times) So after finally gettin done and comin home before I went to sleep I wanted to let you guys know. laugh

Happy Holidays guys and girls be safe. cheers

I was going to say something sarcastic like it must be those lund stick on scoops you have but I'll show some mercy, put it this way a stock GTP runs 14.8-15.1 1/4 mile times so a modded GT should have the upper edge with a little better gearing and a higher stall speed but with a few mods on the GTP he'll smoke you ,to keep a head of the game you will need a cam and FI either a blower turbo or nitrous it's a never ending cycle usually ending in new transmission, good luck at the track I would be interested to see how acurate your friends toy is.Chico.

Your friend needs to drive his car off of a cliff and then end himself.

Why would the number of doors make any difference when racing a minivan?

Actually, it's only slightly more weight. You might gain two doors, but your front doors are smaller. You also loose the huge sheet metal piece just forward of the rear tires.

A minivan beat a GTP? Please tell me the GTP had a plugged fuel filter, clogged cat, or a squirrel caught in the belt drive... crazy
Now I have this mental image of a minivan with 1/4 mile ETs displayed on the windshield... banghead

Should I whip out the turbo minivan video laugh

EDIT:

Seeing the previous posts, I guess I do.

In racing, the driver is a BIG factor. Also note the most Windstars had 200 hp engines in them. Sure weight is a factor too (4,000 lbs vs. our 3,500 lbs). However, just because you car is more powerful doesn't mean an automatic win. Cars can't race by themselves.

well the race was down hill with the driver of the van weighing close to 350 pounds. me and my buddy combined dont weight that. so maybe the fatass driver and the weight of the van down hill gave him the advantage.
again im still shocked and confused, but its not my car, and if it was i would immediately sell it and get a car that can win at a race with a minivan.

but does it really matter if its a 2dr or a 4dr. in my mind i would rather have a 4dr even if it is a bit heavyer but i would rather have a 4 door anyday over a 2 door

i like to claim that my car has the largest doors ever on a production car...

comparable to some exotic sports car claiming to be the fastest production car on the road.

Racing down hill is not a race in my opinion but a test of gravity.Chico.

I raced a GTP last night and unfortunately I lost to him... it was close though. He only had a CAI, and I hung with him thru first gear and part of second, but in the upper RPM's of second gear he started pulling on me pretty good. By about 85mph when we backed off he had 2 or so car lengths on me. Darn those superchargers!

It was pretty good race though. My car is just a GT powertrain as you guys all know, but the guy I raced thought I had just a stock GTP (my car is debadged). He was surprised when I told him "no supercharger" :p

Once I get my cam in... we'll run again and see who surprises who though! cheers

Don't the Chevy Astro vans have something like a 4.3L engine?
I've heard they'll take care of a GTP with ease.

Yes, 4.3 in an Astro, same as the S10/Blazer. Any idea how much they weigh?

Wait what? I have a buddy with a stock 4.3 S10 and I can walk him decently in my stock GT. How can a 4.3 Astro take a GTP? I'm not making this up either. I have no reason to lie.

Only thing I can think of is off the line, with some of the rarer AWD Astro vans. They have the same drivetrain that was stuffed in the Typhoon and Cyclones, so they can launch like a mofo.

Take that 3.29 gear outa that GT and slap in the 2.94 the GTPs have now lets see how that GT will hang with a GTP smile

I honestly have no idea... are you kidding around or being serious? I thought the 329s helped the GT, because people that do top end swaps run faster than stock GTP's. Help a newb out!

The 3.29 gear helps the GT get out of the hole. The 2.94 in the GTP helps to get great gas mileage.

The GT does well with a top end swap because of the 9.something compression ratio and the 3.29 gears.

The GTP has a compression ratio of low 8s.

Now if you put that 3.29 gear in the GTP and a smaller pulley...

I was waiting for someone to bust out the turbomini van! By the way, even with the mods I have, once my car is going and I stomp on it it doesn't necessarily have the same power as if I jumped off the line. So maybe that guy got stuck in a 3rd or 4th when he slammed it and "Lol, he lost to a mini van!"
